And it was at a time when we had an abundance of attacking midfielders, as well. Was never needed.

I thought EFL clubs could only loan from the English leagues until the 31st August, no incoming international transfers of any sort (exc Free agents) where permitted?

Wasn’t even a guaranteed starter at Aberdeen yet * think he could still make it here and be given a chance :giggle1:

Was he not? I thought Derek McInness said he was their best player last season

    THInk that was 16/17.

Aberdeen stat account says he only started 20 odd games and didn’t have any big injuries.

To be fair I don’t really think mcInnesses opinion counts either way, he rates that big donkey that scored about 3 goals in his career above Adam Rooney.

    Not comparable with Compper..

He tried and performed well on loan, just a level below what we require.

Jack Ross has admitted an interest in Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie – but says Sunderland would likely need to offload players before they can add any more new faces.

The Black Cats have been linked with a loan move for the 23-year-old Scotland international.

But while Ross says Christie fits the template of the kind of player he is looking for, he is not expecting any imminent arrivals on Wearside.

Ryan is a player that I like, he has good qualities but again it is a balance between what we need in the squad,” said Ross, following Sunderland’s 4-1 win at Gillingham.

“He is a left-footer and we don’t have a lot of them in the squad in forward areas.

“He is a player that I am acutely aware of and he fits the kind of bracket in terms of he has played a lot of games for a young man.

“At the moment we are where we are and I don’t envisage anything changing quickly.”

I’d send him on loan to them but wouldn’t agree a fee until we see how he gets on.

A few goals and he’s worth £10m down there.

Ntcham, Dembele, Paddy, Ajer and French Eddy, just to mention a few recent ones, were all prospects.
The difference is they’ve shown that they are good enough to break into the team.

The ones who don’t make the team, the Kouassi’s, Benyu’s and Christie’s, for example, are clearly not showing the manager enough in training, or on the pitch, to show that they are good enough to step up, or that they need more time to develop.

It wouldn't of been a waste of a signing had we evaluated him at his first Aberdeen spell (this was never really needed, he was never going to be UCL class which is what we should strive for) and then punted for profit while his stock was quite high. An English team would of bit, might even of got the Hayes money back from Aberdeen.

I don't mind this type of transfer policy, seen bigger clubs use it well, but you have to punt while the stock is high. We held on and he didn't have the greatest of second season.

Who are we gonna get to replace him,I'd hazard a guess at nobody I'd Rather keep him .unless we sell him to Sunderland for nothing and 50% of future sale as already mentioned it he does well he'll be worth far more

I would keep him. I have seen a lot of him even before he joined us and think he deserves more chances especially with the amount of games we play in a season.

Links up really well and does well in the striker position and is very versatile. I would extend his contract and see how gets on with more chances this season then sell him for a decent fee in the future if he doesn’t stake a claim.

He isn't good enough but he played well when he came on and against domestic side's camped in....he does take up good positions and can use the ball well..

Some of those drab 1 nil and nil nil home game's he probably could come in and make an impact off the bench..

He did well tonight when he came on, looked really lively. He also looks a much more powerful player than the one that left us 18 months ago.

A nice player, but I don't think he'll ever make it at Celtic now.
