    Im not sure if it is only Lake Malawi or other African lakes too, but i think every fish in it is a cichlid as they were trapped there at one point and the many types of cichlid have evolved from a single type.

    (from the days i could watch Sir Dave without the music etc annoying me! :56:)

    Aye, here is a segment from their wiki!

    Cichlids are particularly well known for having evolved rapidly into a large number of closely related but morphologically diverse species within large lakes, particularly Tanganyika, Victoria,Malawi, and Edward. Their diversity in the African Great Lakes is important for the study of speciation in evolution. Many cichlids introduced into waters outside of their natural range have become nuisances.
