Arteta is doing a good job at Arsenal.

No way he was turning that around over night.
They had wages through the roof and a very large squad, he has slowly and very cleverly been getting rid of the overpaid and underperforming players and bringing in the right players, it was always going to take quite a bit of time to turn that team around.

Doing that and getting the team playing to the style you want takes time and they have had some very good performances.

Yeah they had some players earning a huge amount of money, one that was on 300k a week and not even playing!

He is streamlining the team, adding some quality, given the quality in the EPL he is only 5 or 6 points out of a European place.

Best to judge him next season when he is able to add to the squad now that he has freed up a lot of money.

Probably what's wrong when it comes to getting a new manager, people want instant success even in a league as competitive and have so much money as the EPL!
A lot of Arsenal fans are very happy at the way the team is being shaped, they know better than most the state the team was in and how much money was being wasted.

Realistically what we need is someone competent with a decent record that can rebuild next season and set us up for the next few years with a mix of now players, some projects and get youth sorted out with pathways to the first team so that when they move on the next guy has a solid foundation

The longest a manager has been with us since the 60s is 5 years, if we got 5 years out a manager (a good one that is) amazing develop on that more and set a culture.

Get fitness sorted out and instill some drive and build for the future.

What we don't want is some complete untested person without a proper plan.

Maresca I'm not a fan of, he has no real experience even though he's doing well just now at City youth that's not a comparison to celtic.

Remeber what happed with Cathro at hearts, looked a really positive promisinganagwr with a great record as an assistant, was utter *.

Was all aboard the Maresca bus, but after seeing all they * mutants doing mutant things, I really want a top candidate, as opposed to a project. Who that is? * knows, but we need to make an immediate statement.

I said earlier in the thread that Maresca along with Harkin could be very good.

The 2 of them obviously know each other and would know a few players to bring in straight away, which is what we need.
If we can get someone like Howe in now, in time for him to change the team enough and bring in players before the qualifiers start then I would prefer that but he needs to be brought in now and not at the end off the season, their isn't enough time for him to build the squad he want's.

Maresca and Harkin could change the side around in the short term and given their connections could add some much needed talent to the side while building the squad and getting rid of players.

Was Maresca considered for the Managerial roles at Ascari, Sevilla or West Ham when he was manager there ? It's a little concerning how he bounced through them. Do we actually know if he's a good coach ?
