He got Swansea promoted into the second tier for the first time in their history, won the FA Cup with Wigan which will probably never be done again, got Everton's highest ever points total in the premier league and has guided Belgium to the number 1 ranked team in the world having lost only 4 games from 51. I wouldn't say that was struggling everywhere.

    Just ignoring his Swansea promotion?
Or the FA Cup win with Wigan?
Or the 5th place finish with Everton, taking them to Europe and recording a then record win streak with them in the EPL?
Belgium he got 3rd place win, beating England, Brazil and winning all his group games.

English football is always very yo-yo, but clearny he hasn't struggled everywhere. In fact he has had relative success everywhere he has went - with the inevitable pressure of English top tier football getting the better of almost every manager if you don't get top 4 every season.

Also to be noted, in his time, he was chased by us and Liverpool - say what we want about us, but Liverpool tend to go for the best talent they can get.

He also relegated Wigan, the two seasons after his 5th place he did pretty badly with Everton.

    Ah, cheers :50:

I hadn't seen his name in the running..

The name's being doing the rounds are quite promising. Some very good one's..

I liked that Silva at Watford. He seemed to lose it a bit at Everton though. Can vaguely remember some dodgy press conferences when he wasn't getting results..

Any chance of Lucien Favre? Out of work at the moment, most recently was at Dortmund

Quoting both, because both Silva and Martinez fall in to the same boat (as do many others). We seem too quick to dismiss percieved "failure" in England for some players and managers, yet collectively we do all accept and should continue to understand the dog eat dog and the complete over hyped and demanded leagues that they are. Wigan aren't a big team or expected to do well, relegation from EPL and play off promotion is literally to be expected - so if it happens then that is just par of the course, we need to look at if there was any major good or bad spells within that, outwith the norm. In Martinez case, thats his cup win. At Everton they are literally a mid table side, but the success is their runs and best points total and 5th place finish - thats great success for Everton, coming 12th is pretty standard. Sacking him for that is absolutely mental considering that is their level. Just shows the fickle nature and instant demand for success from the english clubs.

As for Silva time in England, he done reasonable as well, but it is his time at Sporting and Olympiacos which we really should be looking at - clubs at our level, where he proves he can more than succeed and brings in (for me) the correct attitude and professionalism.

edit: badly worded at the start of this - we dismiss managers for perceived failure in England.

Wigan being relegated is hardly a shock though, they probably had the smallest budget in the league. Look where they are now. The year he got sacked by Everton, he got them to the semi final of the league cup and FA cup.

Out of our reach? He's already agreed to go to Dortmund at the end of the season.

Said it earlier in the thread but Leonardo Jardim is still out of work and could be a decent option.

Took Monaco to Champions League Semi Final and won the League against PSG despite a big financial gap. Had Olympiakos 10 points clear in the League until he had a disagreement with the board and parted company. Also done decent at Sporting Lisbon.

Was free up until a few weeks ago thought. Only been there 7 games. Drew his first two and won the last 5 on the bounce. Could’ve been a good shout to take over in December.

Hopefully in with a shout of Southgate then. He's managed to get England to 4th best team in the world so he must be an incredible manager despite relegating Middlesbrough (much like Martinez did with Wigan) after years in the Premiership.
