Reading between the lines it’s not going to be as simple as sticking a claim in and paying an excess.

If I were the guy in charge of Cardiff's cash, I certainly wouldn't want to be paying £15m on some * that died before he'd even played a game for the club.

Some shady play right enough, but understandable.

They agreed to pay a fee, signed contracts and have been calling him "their player", they should cough up the money owed.

See if you agreed to buy a car that was then to be transported over from...say...France, then you get a phone call to say it went missing, then later turned up at the bottom of a lake.

Then you get a phone call to say, eh btw you've still to pay full price for the car, well, I think it'd be a different story.

You would have the sense to have insured it by that stage Pad.

    Precisely.

So surely (even the most daftest * would assume that Cardiff had an insurance policy signed out upon his signing) Cardiff don't need to pay anything until the insurance is sorted?

That's a totally different scenario and to be honest I don't see how that can be compared.

Having read up on it since I read Paul's post this morning, it's about the fee being over inflated that they are questioning and looking for advice on, something to do with agents saying there was another club interested.
Cardiff agreed to pay £15m for him, they thought he was worth it.

He had already been ' delivered' to Cardiff, he was in their possession and he flew back to say goodbye to his ex team mates.

Nah, I'd say Cardiff have to pay and then they get the insurance. Do not see how Nantes have to wait when he is no longer their player.

I'm bowing out of this, I feel so disrespectful talking about him in this way.

They hadn’t agreed to buy a car, they’d bought it and took it home days before.

I'd say they're extremely comparable - considering, despite all the sycophantic sympathy that will be doing the rounds, whoever it is that's grumbling about paying money clearly see this as a "product" situation.

Even moreso a reason for Cardiff not to pay anything - not their fault that his plane crashed whilst he was away to say Au Revoir!

Looks pretty straight forward. He already signed for Cardiff then chose to fly back to France himself. Time to pay up Cardiff.

Heard a lot of journos in the British press having a go at Nantes over them asking for payment... this being a much poorer club than Cardiff, and a club legally obligated to pass on a chunk of the money to Bordeaux via a sell-on clause (Bordeaux had to go out and publicly deny demanding the money, to avoid the press dragging their name through the mud). And it wouldn't have gone public if Cardiff hadn't of confirmed the rumours in the French press (to BBC Wales, iirc), they're ultimately playing a PR game of sorts.

    SALA SIGN-UP

Emiliano Sala signed potentially invalid £15m contract with Cardiff City before doomed plane crash

Cardiff had said they would wait for the outcome of the Air Accidents Investigation Branch following the star’s tragic death before paying Nantes the agreed fee.

But the contract has now apparently been revealed to have been non-compliant with Premier League rules and was returned for him to sign a revised one, before the horrifying plane crash.

Cardiff are trying to find any loophole not to pay Nantes.

Both should just agree to a 50% deal and stop this from dragging on any further.

Disgusting behaviour from Cardiff though tbh.

Why should Nantes end up out of pocket though? Not forgetting they owe a percentage of the money to Bordeaux. It’s on Cardiff now to pay the money they are due Nantes and then try and recover whatever they can.

Cardiff are looking disgracefully bad in all this imo.

    Fair point mate.

Yep. They are coming out of this looking terrible.

With the amount of money in that league I also find it astonishing and disgraceful that the public had to set up and donate money to continue the search for Sala and Ibbotson.

This has been handled terribly from start to finish.
