As there is a few Pink Floyd fans on here thought I would make a wee thread discussing the best band ever to have existed. if you don't think so then that is your opinion even though it is wrong :smiley-laughing002:

Just chat about favourite songs, albums, live performances you have seen and post stuff that maybe people haven't discovered yet.

First album I ever heard was The Wall when I was roughly 14 years old and it was nothing like I had ever heard before truly amazing, Something that I love about Floyd is the meaning and stories behind the songs/albums and the effort that has clearly went into them, None of this generic 3 min verse chorus verse they have done it how they wanted over the years.

If you haven't seen The Wall DVD with Bob Gelfdof I would strongly recommend it, also Roger Water's live in Berlin is worth a watch as well :50:

My favourite tracks change from time to time but funnily enough my all time fav track is.....Time :smiley-laughing002:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntm1YfehK7U"]Time - Pink Floyd - YouTube[/ame]

That video is from the Pulse live concert in 94 a must have for any Floyd fans collection :50:

I pretty much love all albums they have done from the early Syd years to the later Gilmour years, ok maybe not Atom Heart Mother but even the band themselves have admitted it was * :smiley-laughing002:

If I had to pick a favourite though it would probably be between Animals, DSOTM or Wish You Were here. * impossible to pick one tbh

Given my age I never got to see Floyd back in the day and with finances couldn't make the solo tours by Waters or Gilmour.

The only live performance I have been at was in 12th of May 2011 when I witnessed a night I will never forget as long as live, Roger Waters The wall at the o2 arena, there had been quite wide spread rumours that Gilmour was going to appear at one of the nights that week (6 shows were announced at the time) I for one never in a million years thought it would be at the show I was attending. Sitting in the best seats in the house in my opinion right in front of the mixing desk just below the camera in the video (you can actually hear us pretty cool eh) Gilmour appears at the top of the wall, well the place went * mental as you would imagine. It still gives me Goosebumps thinking back to that night :icon_mrgreen:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUYzQaCCt2o"]Roger Waters + David Gilmour: Comfortably Numb, Live, O2 Arena 2011 - YouTube[/ame]

It turns out later that Nick Mason was at the mixing desk right behind us for a while but nobody even noticed :54:

Anyway I have rambled on a bit, loads more I could add but better end this mess of a post :smiley-laughing002:

I love Pink Floyd but my favourite stuff is their earlier music with Syd still in the band.
I think "lucifer sam" is my favourite song, closely followed by "see emily play".

Definitely in for some Floyd Appreciation.

One of the first concerts I ever attended was the Delicate Sound of Thunder tour in 1987 - and remains the only time that I've seen 'Pink Floyd' live in person... though I have seen both Roger Waters and David Gilmour doing solo stuff live.

Funnily enough it was through the movie 'The Wall' that was my introduction to them, and didn't take long to suss out their back catalogue of albums. Although I can appreciate Syd Barrett's influence on the early albums, it is the work from 'Dark Side' onwards that has always been of my personal favourite, which was heavily Roger Waters driven. Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall all stand up to the test of time.

As the Tim Floyd posted in the OP, because they are not a 3 minute verse-chorus-verse band is what made them unique in my experience to that point when I first discovered them, meaning that they didn't get much in the way of airplay on the radio (occasionally 'Money' or 'Another Brick in the Wall', that's about it), meant that you needed to listen to the album as a body of work, so again I have Floyd to thank for making me appreciate albums and not just one off songs.

'The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think'

The early stuff is great, tbh you find a few people that can't stick the early stuff and are just a fan of the later stuff but seeing as Syd was such a massive influence on the band all the way through I don't know how you can't appreciate the music at that time.

The band kind of lost their way a bit after Syd "left" and it wasn't till the album meddle I think they finally nailed the sound they were after.

What I would say about those Syd albums was that they were inconsistent. There were some very fine moments on them, to be sure, however there were equally as many that don't live on in the memory for a reason. It was the 70's, when I wouldn't say they found their 'sound', rather when they found their consistency, which in turn provided the direction, curiously enough.

Yes the Waters dominated years were with out a doubt the peak years the band experienced and ironically enough was part of the downfall of the band with Rogers ego.

then The final cut being the final nail in the coffin, It is well know that a large part of the final cut were songs that didn't make the cut for the wall and the obvious intent the direction Waters wanted to take the music in.

edit: the final cut is a dam good album, some might not agree but I think it is.

Was not a Pink Floyd fan until recently when i watched a documentary about Dark Side of the Moon. It was painful and sad for them talking about Syd, clearly he was a big talent and they still had alot of love for the guy. Inspite of his mental health problems.

I absolutely adore the Syd Barret stuff.

I got his Anthology box set thingy years ago. The Madcap Laughs is pure genius.

    Nick Mason :notworthy

You can see how bored he is with just a standard size drum kit, he even loses a stick at one point and doesn't miss a beat.

Big debate i had yrs ago with my mates on best version of this (echoes live).....none of us won...we all stated they were mindblowing in there own ways...

I learned to play echoes after yrs of self taught guitar, couldnt even strum a guitar the day i picked one up)....now...* love it

Pompeii is fantastic gig, look what they call music nowadays (justin * bieber)..

Never made it to floyd gig and now never will...sad,but watching all this music vids is class...

    My favs:

    Echoes
    One of these days
    Time
    Coming back to life
    Shine on
    Sorrow
    Mother
The happiest days of our lives
    learning to fly

just so many to choose....The syd years were class, however floyd became floyd at Dark side of the moon to me.

I was brought up on the likes of Floyd, Dylan, Rafferty etc... but it wasn't until 4th year in school that I really started to appreciate Floyd (coincidentally that was when I started puffing). It was the end of the year and we were told to bring videos in, one of the lads brought in The Wall and i fell in love.
