If he cant get a start today there really isnt much hope for him. Almost inevitable he moves on.

If we cant trust him, Engels or McCowan to start against Thistle imln the league cup I dont see how they will get enough minutes over the season.

Thought he looked good when he came on, few times he fell back to receive the ball off a defender and helped build the play.

Really think that's what he should be focusing on, Rodgers aswell, as he could be a great alternative to Cal. Hope we see more of it.

Bernardo and Trusty must have been very poor in training or not professional enough because they both should be playing much more than they are.

Could have been the onset of planter.. if he's anywhere near coming back he's had it well over 6 months.

He did show glimpses today, there were a few times he received the ball, took a touch, got his head up and played ball forward, something Cal rarely ever does

Ahead of potentially facing a team from his homeland, Portuguese midfielder Paulo Bernardo's current situation at Celtic has been cleared up by manager Brendan Rodgers.

The ex-Benfica academy player has been used sparingly this season at the club, making only four appearances in all competitions, clocking up just over 100 minutes of game-time.

With Celtic facing Primeira Liga stalwarts Braga on Matchday Two on Thursday, the Europa League could provide a chance for Bernardo to face off against a familiar foe from his days in Portugal.

During his pre-match press conference, his manager confirmed that he will play a part in the game at Celtic Park. "Yes, Paulo will be in the squad," said Rodgers.

"He's done very well since he's been here. He has maybe not played as much as what he would have liked. Last year, he had a lot of injuries that kept him out and probably didn't quite have his rhythm."

However, he has come back in the summer and worked very, very hard. Obviously, there have been one or two other players who have been in front of him, but he's fighting now for his place.

"Now he's up fully in his fitness level, so I expect him to play some part tomorrow.

Bernardo initially joined Celtic on loan from Benfica in 2023, where he made 33 appearances in Rodgers' first season back as manager.

After meaningful contributions in his loan spell, including big moments against Rangers, Celtic agreed a permanent deal with his parent side, with the midfielder signing a five-year contract.

Last season, his campaign was stop-start due to injury, though he did make 37 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Interesting so Rodgers basically saying Bernardo has played as little as he has so far this season as he wasn't fully fit. Would be a big boost for the team and Bernardo if he could make a really telling contribution tomorrow and get his season really kick started.

Load of waffle from Brendan, Bernardo could have started the previous 5 games in a row had Brendan wanted him to, Bernardo starting at home to Livingston was over 6 games ago, he's been fit to start since then which was over a month ago

Whilst I do believe Bernardo is best suited to the position Cal currently occupies as a 6, with the way Hatate and Engels have been performing this season as attacking 8s, I'd bet Bernardo would perform far better than both have shown this season in those roles (wouldn't be difficult tbf), yet it'll be Hatate starting tomorrow and Engels once again off the bench before Bernardo in MF, Bernardo will be fortunate to get 15 mins, predictable af

He’s one of several players for what is ultimately 2 positions. It’s got nothing to do with anything other than the manager not picking him.

He absolutely should have played more, before Hatate for a start.

Agree with you guys there that its clear Bernardo could have played recently and should have played more.

He was never going to add a spark to the midfield.

He is so bang average across the board like so many of our midfielders he doesn't have a stand out attribute.

He was getting better every week he never played amongst some of our support similar to Shin.

The most bang average player weve ever signed.

He's typically never terrible or bad, but he's never anything better than average

Thought he was out best midfielder today. Not that I think any of our midfield where good, but better than the rest, who where frankly awful.

Throwing him on this game is bizarre, particularly with Nygren, who was utter *.No idea what Rodgers is thinking of. Asleep at the wheel is the my most charitable guess.

Would've kept him on instead of Calmac.
