Three children have died and their mother is critically ill after a fire at their flat in Paisley.

The alarm was raised at about 21:00 on Friday after the blaze broke out in the upper cottage flat in Renfrew Road.

Fiona Gibson, 12, and her brothers Alexander, eight, and Philip, five, died at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The children's 39-year-old mother was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley in a critical condition.

    Let the people sing
Left for work on Friday night and the emergency services were responding. Its literally just a five minute walk from where I live. Think the paramedics were trying to resuscitate someone outside the flat. I know the dad from staying in the same street as his sister. * tragic so it is. * bless them.

    Here we go again
    RIP
Tragic but some good might come of it if people think about how they might get out in a similar situation.
Things such as smoke detectors installed and tested.
Wet towels at bottom of doors to keep out smoke.
Throwing cushions and mattresses etc out of window to break fall.
This fire appears to have spread very quickly so not sure how much time they would have had to do anything. However if people start to think about and even practice their own escape plan a repetition might be avoided.

BBC News - Paisley fire which caused deaths of three children was 'not suspicious'
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-53122628

    Also..

Their 39-year-old mother remains in the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley but her condition is now described as "not life-threatening".

That's at least something....I bet she wishes she went with them, she'll be totally destroyed.
