What famous events happened on this day.

3rd September 1939 - Britain declares war against Germany over the invasion of Poland 2 days earlier officially starting WWII from a British perspective. As wars go this one was the most morally justifiable to enter. I would have happily signed up on day one.

Fantastic Topic CheGuevara, yes this was indeed one of the most morally justiable to enter.
And of course it turned iut to be the Biggest War in History,i have always been fascinated by World War 2,all the huge battles, twists and Turns and tactics,as warfare changed,so many weapons like Battleships became obsolete.
And yes CheGuevara i too would have happily signed up on day one.

In hindsight i may have joined up, but at the point we entered, im not sure we were completely aware of what was going on or indeed, what Hitlers intentions were.....so, i cant honestly say i would sacrifice my life to help save Poland.

After Hitler claimed the Sudetanland and then the rest of Czeckoslovakia, even the most ardent of Hitler appeasers knew that nothing would stop his demands. An invasion of Poland was an declaration of war from him and Chamberlain had to back up his promise to come to the aid of Poland

2001..........loyalist scum terrorise holy cross, a catholic primary school. This was
allowed to continue for weeks til one of the dobs threw a flash grenade at the school
    girls and their parents.
It is thought they overstepped the mark at this point and were told to move along.

    Happy birthday mark :50:

Always pays to remember that for China WW2 lasted 8 years, compared to less than 4 for the USA.

Then September 11 happened and the world's press * off.

    Good thread.

Utter utter scum of the highest order. Terrorising those poor children every day.

That remains one of the most, if not the most horrific thing I have ever seen.

Aye, just not sure everyone knew he would then turn West so quickly and run riot....or the extent of the plans for the death Camps etc.
I remember seeing a film/docu about that......cant remember what it was exactly. Unbelievably gutting and harrowing.

Hitler had signed a non aggression pact with Russia, so everyone knew he wasn't going East at that point. After the conquest of Poland, and with France declaring war against Germany a few hours after Britain had, West was bound to be the direction.

You're right about the death camps etc, as those hadn't been dreamt of that point, but they had been burning synagogues and treating the Jews despicably for well over a year prior.
