    The transfer of striker Oh Hyun-kyu from Suwon Samsung in the professional soccer K League 1 to Celtic in the Scottish Premier League (SPL) has been confirmed.

    An official from Suwon told 'News 1' on the 25th, "We have reached an agreement on the transfer of Hyungyu Oh with Celtic. The official announcement is just ahead." We are discussing whether or not to announce it,” he explained.

    Celtic had expressed interest in Oh Hyun-gyu before the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and was active enough to propose a transfer to Suwon four times right after the World Cup.

    Suwon initially designated Oh Hyun-kyu as an 'irreplaceable player' and rejected Celtic's offer several times. However, both transfer fees and player salaries have recently jumped to a level that is difficult for the club to throw out, so they have changed their direction and entered into negotiations with a positive attitude.

    According to a Suwon official, Celtic's conditions for recruiting Oh Hyun-kyu are more than 2.5 million euros (about 3.5 billion won) in transfer fee and an annual salary that is more than 10 times the amount he is currently receiving in the K-League.

    The two clubs have finished all the detailed coordination of the transfer of Oh Hyun-kyu, and now only the announcement is left.

    Meanwhile, Suwon plans to reinforce the position of the frontline striker, which will be created by Oh Hyun-gyu's transfer, with additional recruitment. An official from Suwon said, "We will prepare a suitable recruitment so that Oh Hyun-gyu's absence is not felt."

    Celtic is one of the most prestigious and strongest teams in the SPL,

    Celtic Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of South Korean internationalist, Hyeongyu Oh, who has joined the club on a five-year deal, subject to international clearance.

    The 21-year-old forward joins from K League 1 club, Suwon Samsung Bluewings, where he has played since 2019.

    Speaking about the latest addition to his squad, Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou said: “We are delighted to bring Oh to Celtic.

    “He is a young, talented striker with great attributes and someone who is ready to take the next stage in his career – a player who is hungry, eager to develop and to achieve success.

    “I have watched Oh for some time and he is the striker I really wanted as I think he will be a great fit in our squad.

    “Really importantly, I know that he had his heart set on joining us too and that his own perseverance has been crucial in making this deal happen, so his determination to join Celtic has been very clear.

    “We are really pleased to welcome him to the Club and look forward to working with him and settling him into our squad.”
