Surprised that anyone is surprised that albums are still a thing.

A random playlist or random collection of singles will never, ever, compete with one complete body of work from an artists perspective. A snapshot in time, the ability to take listeners on a journey rather than just banging out a 3 minute song with no context.

Man, the journey from hearing a song on the radio, to seeking out the album on a Saturday afternoon down Fopp, to seeing them live to becoming a fan boy and spending weeks searching for b sides and rarities.

The internet has some positives but taking the joy out of spending weekends in record shops is not one of them.

Move with the times friend. Albums are an outdated platform of some singles and a * load of filler (with rare exceptions).

You know man, I used to love albums but more recently they're getting worse.

Stadium Arcadium by the Chili Peppers is probably the last album I loved and that's what? 2006ish?

Dance music was never really driven by albums either, all eps and singles.

Hmmm. I see where you are coming from but not sure I agree. Yeah good music is a bit harder to come by nowadays (probably age rather than availability) but hearing a single and diving into album tracks is still a treat.

Not as much fun just streaming it on Spotify right enough.

It sounds like your issue isn’t the format of an album but more the that there aren’t many good ones being released.

I know music is subjective, but there are a * of a lot of albums I've loved since then. I'm with Sean and Paul, I don't think albums will ever go away.

OK guys, when was the last time you sat down to an album and listened through for 50/60 mins - start to finish? Without skipping songs.

    Haha fair enough.

I haven't done that in years. Listen through, pick out the songs I like and add them to play lists.

Only albums Ill still listen to are dance mixes or something, nothing at all by bands.

Fair enough. I spend a * load of time working with music in the background, so I pick an artist and go through their albums. I use mixed playlists when I'm exercising.

I’ll be honest with you, the only new album I listen to start to finish is Imploding The Mirage. Which I do a couple times a week.

I’ll concede there’s been a dearth of quality new albums last couple of years.

I’m somewhere in between. There’s a few concept albums I love, so listening to them in full is the way to do it obviously. But even within them, there’s a few songs I’ll listen to individually on a more regular basis.

In general though I’m pretty bad when it comes to listening to full albums. Whenever I get into a band, I’ll end up listening to the same 5-10 songs on repeat rather than going through full albums at a time.

Some bands I’ve loved for years, I’ve still not went through their back catalogue. Probably doing myself out of some amazing music but it’s a bad habit at this point.:giggle1:

Imo, there's been plenty of quality albums in the past couple of years. Suppose it depends largely on your taste though.
