    GLARINGLY OBVIOUS. PMSL

I take it he was continuing to paper over the cracks when he beat Lazio home and away. hahaha

Yes just look at them now, what a team!!

Yes that Heckingbottom is some manager, far better than Neil Lennon. You clearly know a good manager when you see one. Oh dear :poster_oo

Ah, you’re one of those guys who thinks digging up old posts is hilarious.

Mental that things change over time. Who woulda thunk it?

Don’t need to go digging to bring up your mistakes, anyway. Every post is another to add to the collection.

In fairness the pre-season saw a lot of heated debate as to weather the Lennon appointment was the right one. I felt very strongly he was and am glad my opinions have been validated. But let's be honest, this forums is a game opinions. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we get it wrong.

What stuck out for me though was how strongly opposed to Lennon's appointment some on here had been. I genuinely shocked me and really annoyed me tbh. The big one that annoyed me was when I heard things like "he hasn't managed a big club before". Like I said at the time "clubs don't come any bigger than our very own Celtic". I think what he is doing right now, shows he is a big club manager and Celtic through and through.

We are all Celtic fans at the end of the day and Lennon doing a great job is a great thing for all of us. Time to put the original debate to bed. Some have been validated in their original opinion and some have had to put their hands up and admit they called it wrong. It all really doesn't matter anymore because we all got what we wanted. Our club is moving forward, we have raised the standards again and we have a very exciting season(s) ahead.

Theres just something about Lennon and celtic. I dont believe he could be anymore successful than here. Sometimes a club and manager just work, and we have that. Hope he stays for 15 in a row.

I didnt want Lenny in the job.

The main reason was the football we were playing for months was awful, it felt like regression and that we were in major danger of * 10 in a row (though I was confident of him in Europe).

I could not of been more wrong, we're a fantastic side to watch now and he & the team probably gave me the best night of my life in Stadio Olimpico a few days ago.

    Gewon Lenny!!

As someone who wanted lenny from the start and was pretty vocal on here in support of him I will hold no animosity or bear any grudges against the majority who were against him because they thought he wasn't good enough. The only posters I would have no respect for are the * that made fun or him and attacked him personally calling him a moron and a * idiot. Regardless of had he been a success or failure the man at least deserved our respect to what he has endured for the club.

Hopefully in the years to come he can look back on his time employed by Celtic and think all the hassle has paled into mediocrity compared to the joy he has experienced

That's it in a nutshell mate.

I understood people's reservations with Lennon, my own pick for the job was Benitez but that was never realistic (I did vote Lennon in the poll though before someone brings that up)

I think there's a way of constructively putting your point across for why you would favour someone over Lennon without being disrespectful. The wee man is as honest as they come, has put himself and his family on the line to play, captain and manage Celtic.

Instead of saying "I favour candidate A, B or C because...", it all too often descended into a free-for-all on Lennon, how lucky he was to have been offered to come back, how clueless he was, how grim the winning football was, etc. etc. It was an eye-opener.

I still don't agree with the way the club announced it, right after the Treble Treble but going back to the hospitality when the mood went from jubilation to flat, I said the same thing that I've said all along. If you back the wee man in the transfer market he will deliver us success.

So far, so good in that respect...

Of course they do and they have. It’s easy to say he was the right option in hindsight.

But there’s a reason he was such an unpopular choice at the time. People didn’t not want him just for the sake of it.

Do you think I’m saying it in hindsight? There was a reason: because people were wrong and bought into the narrative he wasn’t good enough, when he was and is.

Some did though. A guy in my work - who is actually reasonably objective about most things - said he didn't want Lennon because he doesn't wear a suit.

A member of my family said he didn't want him " 'cause he's always in Tennents in Partick and isn't professional"

For some, Lennon's face just doesn't fit. He's an abrasive, unrefined, Irishman that wears his heart on his sleeve and refuses to be broken by a country that has done it's best to make him feel unwelcome.

Some want a media-savvy manager who is removed from all that but for me it makes me respect Lennon even more.

When Lawwell made his 'knows the City' point, he was nodding to the wave of honest mistakes and media nonsense that was going to be coming our way in the next 2 years, to whoever took the hotseat. Lennon has seen it all and came out the other side a winner. That's his pedigree and it's exactly why he was a much better candidate than Moyes, Clarke, Neil etc.

You are. It’s impossible for you to claim you were right without hindsight.
