As someone else has said, Lennon has lived more of his life in Scotland and England than he has the North. Tbh he’s probably quite removed from politics in the north and likely feels more of an affinity for Glasgow (where he has raised a family and had some of the best moments of his professional life) than he does for Lurgan.

Even if he is engaged or up to date with Irish politics, he strikes me as someone who is quite moderately nationalist. Certainly not republican. It’s also a huge generalisation to assume that every catholic in Lurgan is a republican. I went to school with lads from Lurgan and many don’t care much for politics at all.

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been fined for a bust-up with an opposition boss in the game before his epic meltdown in the Cypriot Cup Final.

The former Celtic manager led his ten-men Omonia Nicosia side to penalty shootout glory against Ethnikos Achnas but he was sent off in extra time for protesting at refereeing decisions.

Lennon will now be in the Europa League with his new side next season after their Cup heroics although he's sure to face sanctions from the Cypriot FA.

However, the day after the cup final win, Lennon received his first fine from the Mediterranean island's FA's disciplinary committee for an outburst during a match last week against PAEEK Kyrenia

The Cypriot Football Association's disciplinary chief Aristotelis Vryonidis stated: "There was a complaint regarding Neil Lennon, coach of Omonia Nicosia for unsportsmanlike behaviour he showed to the coach of the opposing team in the 30th, 32nd and 40th minute of the match.

"This was in violation of Article 4 (c) of the Disciplinary Regulations of the association. The decision is a fine to Mr Lennon

The clubs/fans politics has * all to do with Lennon, I just like politics in general and that of football teams/suppoerters as well. No idea how you can come to the conclusion that someone is trying to beat Lennon with a stick.

I've read about the Cyprus history but only on a very basic level and this was an opportunity to further that with someone who I'd assume would know about the history more, being Greek he is obviously pro Greece but my uneducated opinion is that Cyprus should decide their own destiny outwith the influence of Greece or Turkey. Derailed the thread slightly

    Fair play.

Might be a generational thing. In all honesty I don't know the man so don't know his politics but his generation I'd expect he's as sympathetic to what was basically a default position for many of Catholic upbringing in that area.

Yea of course, he almost certainly shares a position on certain events or issues of the country’s past with Republicans. But I would just be surprised if he was in any way heavily invested in the republican movement. But of course, like yourself, I can’t categorically say that for fact. I don’t know the man.

TBH, if he's in Europa League, that's good. I remember he seemed quite despondent in his final season with us. Having the fury back, even if going overboard, might mean he's out of the bad phase.

I'm sure he's never actually took a public political position? It's the fact that he's a Catholic from Lurgan that those animals decided he was some sort of mad Provo and whipped up a campaign of hatred against him.We should be wiser not to make such assumptions.

Unpopular amongst many, buuut, Dudu Dahan has done it for us, and I can see why Lennon might like the people. Of course, Lennon has worked with two Arabs, not just Jews.

    Israel is an apartheid state.

If you can brush that off because an agent found you a couple of players then each to their own.

I absolutely agree it's an apartheid state. But, Lennon seems to have been influenced by people he met during his tenures as manager.

Which makes people debating about what his politics where or what his teams supports are pretty irrelevant when it comes to Lennon.

    He’s a selfish * who doesn’t give a * about anyone but himself.

Am I missing something! Do we all not talk about where we need to strengthen? I thought this comes with every clubs supporters, especially now a new season is to be prepared for?

I hope he enjoyed his few pints. Well earned after winning his first trophy at his new club!
