Yes this does include Musicals, but it is so, so much more than that! Any film that deals with or primarily features music, musicians, musical themes, etc and genres from biopics (Amadeus, Respect, Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody etc) to comedy (Almost Famous, High Fidelity, Empire Records, Spinal Tap etc) to animated features (all those Disney movies etc), movies based on albums (The Wall, Tommy, Slade on Fire etc) and that is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. There is a lot more out there than just musicals.

Set in a music store/radio station that plays music - yes.
Movie about following a band or going to a music festival etc - yes
Movies that are about dancing/clubbing etc - yes.
Movies where the soundtrack is a core part of the plot - yes

Note - just because a film has a banging soundtrack doesn't make it eligible though, only where it is a core part of the plot. For example, Guardians of the Galaxy (the mixtape made by dying mum is his only momento and is played) or Baby Driver (the driver uses the MP3 player to cut the tinnitus in his ears & for timing while driving) etc. There are others but it has to play a core part, not just cause it's got good songs, hope that makes sense.

Good movie about the early days of the Beatles with a brilliant soundtrack. (Featuring members of R.E.M./Nirvana/Afghan Wigs/Sonic Youth/Soul Asylum)
Have it on lp and still play it very often.

I am going to try and nominate films that haven't been named yet, a helluva lot of good soundtracks and musicals already put out there

I think the few folk that have stated they’ll miss out on contributing a top10 will be surprised by the overall list. Hope they join in and maybe not write it off so soon.

    Ray
    Mary Poppins Returns
    Beauty and the Beast 2017
    The Lion King 1994
    Moana
    Black Swan

Still not sure what actually qualifies but

    Hook
    Oasis - Supersonic
    Muse - Simulation Theory

Would "The" Suicide Squad as Gunn has the movie at least 70% of music?

That's not the defining characteristic here.

Suicide Squad features a lot of songs, but they are just songs being played in the background. They may set the tone for the scene they are being played to, and Gunn's use of them here is almost expected but far from being necessary for the story or essential to understanding Harley Quinn or King Shark or Amanda Waller or whoever.

Guardians of the Galaxy (Vol I & II) is because a big part of Quill's character centres on the music of the mixtapes that his dying mother made for him, so it is part of the actual story and why it's central to understanding Quill. It's not because of being a Gunn film, as SS is, but because it's for the character.

Baby Driver's use of the MP3 player is key because of the driver's tinnitus in his ear and timing for when driving. So it is important because its needed for the character.

Good Morning Vietnam is, as Cronauer is a DJ and the use of the music he chooses to play is important as much as his humour is to understanding the influence and change that Cronauer was having on collegues as well as the moral of the troops etc as much as the war is having on Cronauer.

This would apply to Pump Up the Volume, as the songs are primarily selections from Christian Slater's 'Happy Harry Hard-On' pirate radio show, and the effect it has on the students and faculty, parents at a school etc.

Also to the likes of Reservoir Dogs, as the DJ (K-Billy's Super Sounds of the 70's) or American Graffiti's 'The Wolfman Jack' on the radio interject and the selections of songs are the spoke words of the DJ's, so they are built into the stories, (even though in K-Billy's case it's an off screen character) but their dialogue was created for the movies, so they would count.

    That's a couple of examples.
