Man Tony's corner was awful btw, change the gameplan. Khabibs going to go for the takedown instantly lol

Thought that was pretty *. Tony looked sluggish the whole fight and took a pummeling.

That extra weight cut did him no favours.

Well done to Gaethje, that was a nice easy win for him. Khabib would destroy him in 1 round though.

How Tony able to speak that well after that. Most sense he’s spoken since he’s been in the company.

He definitely isn’t, and I’d of said that before that fight.

Gaethje has great takedown defence and it only takes one punch. He’s got as good a chance as anyone.

Khabib is a huge favourite as he will be against anyone, but Gaethje is a bad match up. That’s not a 1 round fight.

Gutted for anycunt who didn’t stay up and watch it live :giggle1: Cejudo retiring is still the biggest shock of the night.

Cause if you don't finish every fight in one round you're obviously not capable of it, right?

Gaethje has absolutely nothing to trouble Khabib. Khabib could essentially pick what round he finishes Gaethje in.

Everyone's gonna rave about Gaethje after that win, but that was not the same Ferguson that's been on an 8 year streak. He was a shadow of himself tonight.

That extra weight cut had clearly done him in. Anyone coulda pieced him up. He was wobbling about the whole fight, moving in slow motion. The fact he managed to still give Gaethje problems while he was in that state shows just how limited he really is.

Khabib would have Gaethje on his back in no time. And we all know what happens once Khabib is on top of you. In fact, that won't even happen cause Gaethje won't even get the Khabib fight. He'll end up fighting Porier or Iaquinta or something, somebody more on his level.

It's just sad cause now the only person who looked like they could give Khabib a fight looks like they're done, and the LW division is just one absolute beast of a fighter and vs a few good punchers with not much else about them.

Had Gaethje, horrible match up for Ferguson, would've had a better chance against Khabib tbh. Ferguson had zero game plan, McGregor if he had a glass tank would piece him up as well on that viewing.

Watching a tough * like him shuddering after that shot at the end gave me the chills, too tough for his own good!

Cejudo never retiring, thinks he deserves more money as a double champ, olympic gold medalist and all that. Couple of impressive wins, but I think TJ does him when he comes back.

I’ve said it all along as well, had him on tonight as well plus 5 others and won £100. Happy days :36:

So many people just underestimated what an animal Gaethje is, he does not care about getting hit.

I'm not saying he isn't capable I'm just saying it isn't in his style anymore, his last 1st round win was 7 years ago against someone that isn't as good as gaethje.
Gaethje has great ko power, insane leg kicks, and good wrestling. He has more in his arsenal than someone like McGregor or barboza had against khabib. For what it's worth I think khabib would win, but Gaethje shouldn't be written off.

Or maybe he just got outclassed and out fought? Tony Ferguson's run was amazing but even during his run he was seriously hurt in 3 of his fights and you could see there were holes to his game. Also, apart from the uppercut at the end of rnd 2 when did he cause gaethje problems? His face barely had a scratch on it whilst ferguson was battered for 5 rounds.
If Gaethje done that to ferguson then khabib would have killed him, he has solid wrestling also has good technique and ko power in both his punches and kicks. Is porier considered a bad fighter now?

He cares a lot more in that fight than he ever has. That was the most patient and calculated we’ve seen him.

Aye he didn't go for a round 1 knockout like his last 3 fights and that probably surprised tony, he used his technique and picked his power shots bar round 2 when Tony dropped him he dominated him. The main thing was Gaethje's defence, he blocked a lot and his counter shots were brilliant, especially the leg kicks and checked most of Tony's kicks.

He just went to another level.

I actually can't believe what I've just read. Keep it up though, this narrative only means a better price on Gaethje against Khabib.

Same old narrative whenever someone loses "he was a shadow of himself in there". Gaethje made him look a shadow of himself. What if Gaethje dropped for good from that uppercut? Vintage Tony.

If you looked more closely you would have seen that:

    - Lando Vannatta had him on the ropes, dropped him multiple times before gassing (took the fight on like 2 days notice).

    - Kevin Lee dominated Tony early. He took him down, mounted him while also landing good punches on Tony's chin in the air when they were standing. Lee gassed as he had staph infection which is well known to have an awful effect on stamina.

    - Pettis dropped Tony and landed quite a few good punches on him in the first round. Round 2 he broke his hand and wilted to pressure.

    - Cerrone, a man now on a 4 fight skid who got his * handed to him by Conor and Gaethje, landed AT WILL on Tony's chin in round one, finishing strong and taking that round. Round 2 was Tony's, and after the bell he landed an illegal and telling blow on Cerrone which you could argue ended the fight via doctor stoppage.

Tony Ferguson has had massive glaring holes in his game for years. He took punches for fun and his chin allowed that. Last night he met a man who could hit like a truck, stay patient and avoid getting hit much, match Tony for heart and match Tony for stamina. Many men would have wilted to Tony last night but Gaethje was simply too good for him and a terrible stylistic matchup. I had 100 quid on him at 2/1 and told all my mates to back him.

As for Khabib, when has he ever fought anyone even close to the wrestling ability of Justin Gaethje? Al Iaquinta is the only one even remotely close and Al refused every single takedown after round 2 if I remember right. Remember, Khabib is not good at landing takedowns in the open.. he's not a takedown specialist in general. He is a top game specialist and an absolute specialist against the cage.

Now, assuming the fight is made, he is up against a true elite NCAA Division 1 wrestler who is an excellent athlete with outstanding hips and takedown defence. Khabib is hittable and Justin showed last night that his striking had absolutely gone to a new level. I highly doubt Khabib could take even 20% of the shots Tony ate last night. Even I didn't expect anything like what we saw there.

Gaethje all * day baby.. and then Conor to return and absolutely school Gaethje on the feet :34:

    Gaethje is:

    1. An absolutely elite div 1 wrestler.

    2. A monster in the pocket who is extremely accurate and hits like a truck.

3: Arguably the greatest leg kicker the sport has ever seen.

No chance. Tony has been one of, if not the most, creative and dynamic fighters in the UFC for years. Last night he looked like he was waist deep in wet concrete.

As for Khabib being hittable, don't think he's ever been rocked once in his entire MMA career.

Seriously though, everything you say about Gaethje could be said about Khabib 10x more.

I like Gaethje, and I hope he goes on to be as good as lots of people think he is. But he still has everything to prove, and last night didn't do much to convince me otherwise.

Tony is a great scalp for Justin to have, but that wasn't the real Tony he fought against. I rate it around the same as Cejudo's win over Cruz last night.
