Mechelen boss Wouter Vrancken insists he had to publicly blast Marian Shved claiming the Celtic loanee was "out of control."


The Ukrainian winger moved to the Belgian Jupiler Pro League side on loan last summer after struggling to make the grade in the Scottish Premiership since signing for Celtic in 2019.


The Hoops' playmaker has failed to hold down a regular starting spot at the club and was sensationally called out by Vrancken last year, with the gaffer claiming the 23-year-old should "go play billiards for the rest of his life or something".

However, that angry outburst appears to have brought an improvement out of the £2million Celtic Park signing, notably scoring the winner against Mouscron to round off 2020,

Vrancken told Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad that he stands by the comments and believes it has been a turning point for the attacker.


He said: “I put him in his place internally and publicly, because it was getting out of control.

"But that did make him a mentality switch. He got harder on himself during training, and came on strongly several times, with the decisive goal against Mouscron as the highlight.



A good substitute, that was lacking this season. It's not for everyone.

“We had guys in the ranks who could do that in previous years. Shved also has that in him, although I also expect more input from my other substitutes.”

 

Sounds like he needs someone like Brown to tune him in as to what is expected on the training ground.-one hand on his wind pipe and the other free hand wagging a finger. Sink or swim time, son.

He was here for months with Brown and he never changed. There’s a squad full of current players who need it and haven’t even had that treatment. It’s 2021 people don’t get grabbed by the throat at football clubs anymore

Hopefully get a fair chance under a new manager that doesn't have a permanent * for Forrest, Shved was always on a hiding to nothing here under Lennon, regardless of his attitude, given he plays RW, Lennon will always play his favorites even ahead of better players because he's a * * football manager, Brown ahead of Soro from last January until November is ultimate proof of that, as is the time he selected Mulgrew ahead of Ledley in MF from his first spell at home to Juventus. We could have Messi in the ranks & Forrest would still be played ahead of him.

Man of the mach performance! He seems to be getting his head in the right space and starts to be important.

 

Have we stupidly put a buy option into his deal meaning that if they pay/activate it there's nothing we can do to bring him back?

 

Best to just get rid of guys out on loan right now, let’s just start a fresh
