A back up to who? Two players who’ve completely lost their form?

Nearly 33 for a CB is nothing, especially in he SPL. Leipzig want to keep him, that’s actually the opposite of surplus to requirements. But they will want money for him now while they can get it.

 

You don't need to be a speed merchant if you can read the game. There have been plenty of great centre halfs over the years, who were not the fastest. This guy is coming in to show the rest how to defend! We could get a good 3 years out him easy. He has also not played a massive amount of games for his age, so his body should still be solid. Well worth a punt. My only worry is why are other clubs not interested?

 

MARVIN COMPPER will arrive in Glasgow today to seal his £1million move to Celtic.

The German defender, 32, was given the go-ahead to quit Red Bull Leipzig after crunch talks yesterday.

Compper will now jet into Scotland to put the finishing touches on a contract that will run until at least 2020.

Brendan Rodgers had been scouring Europe for an experienced central defender and moved quickly to tie up the former Germany cap.

Compper also had a spell in Serie A with Fiorentina, and remained a major part of the Leipzig squad despite losing his first-team place.

But Red Bull sporting director Ralf Rangnick refused to stand in his way after Celtic expressed their interest. Compper visited Glasgow last week and was impressed by the plans of Hoops boss Rodgers.

Barring any hitches, he will become a Celtic player in the next 24 hours — and will meet up with his new team-mates in Dubai on January 6.

Compper would not be eligible for the Hoops’ Europa League clash with Zenit St Petersburg however, as Leipzig are also in the last 32.

 

So that’s the big man arrived in the edinbugh and the scum newspaper has stories how he refused to play for Hoffenheim a few years back then went to have an unsuccessful period at Fiorentina... love the Scottish media!

We sure about that, I thought that was only the rule if he'd played in the Europa League, which he hasn't. I don't know the full rules but I think he'd be allowed to play for us.

 

He can't mate otherwise we could have drawn them and he could have played against them..

Happy enough with this signing some much needed experience and leadership required at CB..

Then I 'expect' a signing in midfield, playmaker type winger/central midfielder..
