read this in todays News of the world.

GORDON STRACHAN wants best mate Mark McGhee to replace him at Celtic.
That's why Motherwell gaffer McGhee last week turned his back on a move to Hearts.
The Fir Park chief announced he had a change of heart on the way to the airport to meet Jambos owner Vladimir Romanov.

There might be somthing in this story, would explain the sudden change of heart by McGhee, could see it happening not this season though.
Hes done a great job at motherwell.

I wouldn't pay much heed to anything reported in the NOTW, but it does seem that WGS won't be at Paradise for the long term. I think that would be an awful shame and I'd be more than happy to see him remain here, but I think the treatment he has recieved from a section of the support (some of whom I know personally) has made his position almost untenable.

McGhee (Or Davie Moyes) would be a good replacement in my eyes.

McGhee could be but I dont see him as the best candidate. He has alot to learn as a manager by his own admission. If he could get motherwell to the group stages of the Euro Cup and dislodge rangers for 2nd place next season, I'd sit up and notice but still have to consider all the other options when the day that GS leaves (not soon i hope)

see were your coming from dempsey mate ,but motherwell have done brilliant this season and are not afraid of the celtic and rangers ,it would be some job if motherwell dislodge rangers into 3rd spot , money etc , but a lot of that is down to mark mcghee ,he has a look about him that i like ,hes nobodys mug ,and i think he would be a marvellous man at parkhead ,yes hes not a big name ,but his managerial skills are second to none ,and like strachan hes not afraid to play youngsters ,when the day arrives that the boss GS decides to leave ,mcghee should be looked at but not the now untill GS has achieved his goal at celtic:50:

If it's in the News of the World it must be true!

Any direct quotes? or just more idle speculation written by a lazy journalist to fill column inches.

he's got motherwell playing some decent fitba on a budget and playing on a * poor pitch. never know what will happen, would prefer a manager with experience of managing a top team

I agree totally. McGhee has had a more than decent season at Motherwell and seems to be a man of great integrity, still one good season in charge of Motherwell doesn't make a man Celtic manager material....another two, three years down the line if WGS decides to leave and McGhee has made even more significant strides with Motherwell then yes, i would consider him a candidate, definitely not at this point in time though.

yes i do agree to a certain extent what your saying mate , there allways a but , IF GS left today what about mcghee ,now bear in mind that GS didnt come with a great c.v , would you overlook mcghee at the present time ,i certainly wouldnt, if you read my other posts in this thread i dont want GS to leave ,I do wish mcghee got a chance to become manager after a couple of years when the boss GS decides to go ,but if left right now ,i would go for mcghee in a big way , sometimes in life you take chances ,so why not in this case:50:

GS came here with a far better CV than McGhee has now.
