Chelsea were better to start with though

you could deduct Shevchenko fee from their spends and still come to the conclusion that they've been successful

Don't think they're mediocre anymore buddy, also I don't believe or even think infact I know they don't feel they're the best team in the world they're striving to be, if you caught today's game you would have seen the fans going apeshit over getting a chance for the CL next season by securing 4th place. You name any other top tier EPL team such as Chelsea, arsenal and Man U who would be happy with a 4th place finish in league and you won't find it. In the end you're a typical bitter fan who is now mad at recent success of a club who's history is comprised of failure after failure, relegation after relegation who's now found recent success with a new owner who has the resources such as "money" to help build a club that will have a change in its fortune to produce a history that fan's can actually be proud of.:50:

I fully expect anywhere in the region of £200 million+ to be spent in the summer.

Don't think they'll get anywhere with Mancini at the helm personally but their squad will be that strong they will still be in the mix even without the unity afforded to United and the likes.

Not a fan......I went to a City v Livingston game around 12 years ago and the City fans were singing " Would you like a chicken supper Bobby Sands ". Was never sure why right enough. Was around a thousand of them though and they were proper Mancs.

Alves I can see, but Iniesta would be a tough buy, Pep and the rest of the club love that guy a tons, it'll be hard to pursued Barca to give him up.

The likes of Cesc Fabregas, Jack Wilshere, Tottenham's Gareth Bale, and a number of the continent's biggest stars have been linked with the club, and Redknapp has claimed that up to two players have already been signed up to help Roberto Mancini fight for European and domestic honours next year.

"The man from Abu Dhabi has got so much money, I mean, it isn't like money to him is it?" Redknapp said.

"That's the key. I know people in the right positions there (at City) who have said 'Well, the one thing we couldn't offer was Champions League football.'

"But they tell me they've got one or two players signed already who'll blow your brains out. I mean, that's where they're going.

"They aren't going to stop until they win the championship and even then the Champions League, are they?"

Redknapp's own team surpassed all expectations to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League this year and the 64-year-old thinks City will be good enough to go all the way in Europe next season and win the Barclays Premier League too.

Was just having a squizz on their official website & laughed my * off when I read this article. New money = new fans and Manchester is big enough for glory hunters on both sides, I guess... not much grey area here.

At least Roy Keane will be happy that the 'prawn sandwich brigade' are now filling in both sides of Manchester. Or as Shakespeare put it, "A plague on both your houses".

    http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/FA-Cup-countdown/2011/May/Bluffers-guide-to-City

New to Manchester City FC? If you're not yet a diehard fan then here's a quick guide to help you on your way.

We all know we have the best fans in the world and manager Roberto Mancini is building the team our supporters deserve.

Loyalty, commitment, passion and, during the darker times, a sense of humour has been needed over the years to follow the Blues – that’s what we affectionately call City - but expectation and optimism have now been added to those qualities.

Success means we’ll be welcoming a new generation of City fans from here in England and all over the globe, too, and when our new followers come on board, they’ll be welcomed with open arms into our ‘family’.

Champions League qualification and the FA Cup Final will mean hundreds of thousands of people will adopt the Blues as their chosen side and with that in mind, here is a guide to help ‘newbies’ bluff your way through the televised games, with your mates down at the pub or actually at a game.

So long as you’ve got City in your hearts, we want your support – and if you are watching City (there’s only one City, by the way!) take on Stoke at Wembley on Saturday and you’ll be cheering us on for the first time in the new Carlos Tevez home shirt you’ve just bought on-line, this is stuff you need to know.

As they say on the evening news sports results round-up, if you don’t want to know the following - or more likely if you already know (!), look away now.

Our fans’ anthem is Blue Moon, a song written 67 years ago by Rogers and Hart and adopted in or around 1989. Though we don’t sing the whole song – just the chorus - Blue Moon echoes out when the players are need of an uplift or when we we’ve just scored.

If asked where we play our football, it’s the City of Manchester Stadium – also nicknamed Eastlands due to the area of Manchester it is in. It’s worth noting that from 1923 to 2003 we played our home games at Maine Road

If you are asked who your favourite players are from down the years – your credibility is at stake here – don’t say Francis Bell, Colin Summerbee and Yaya Dzeko though these names exists, they are combinations – have a good scan over the club website and check out who the current favourites are and who the club legends are and take notes!

And, if we score against Stoke and some more experienced Blues (ahem!) around you ask you to join in a ‘Poznan’ , don’t say ‘Sure, make it a double with ice’, simply turn your back to the screen or the pitch, put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side and jump up and down. Simple! Watch the experts in action first!

Incidentally, it’s called The Poznan because City played a team called Lech Poznan earlier this season and their fans did the same dance – we just named it in their honour!

This is our first FA Cup Final since 1981, so don’t try and bluff your way through historical facts. The last trophy we won was in 1976 so again, get this right or you’ll arouse suspicion.

There may be the odd person who tries to trip you up with the terms ‘massive’ or ‘Man City’ – please ignore these are we are now accepting these words in general club usage!

Of course, in the fullness of time you’ll pick ‘The Knowledge’ and become a diehard City fan just like the rest of us. Until then, we hope the above is of some use!

Guess those who followed them for all those years will be absolutely cringing..

I agree Chelsea and Man City are more or less clubs with no big or important tradition/history and the only thing that separates them from average and unimportant teams is a rich sugar daddy.

Manchester United on the other hand never had a sugar daddy. Executives made it the most profitable team in the U.K. It began trading on the London Stock Exchange in 1991. In 199293, Manchester United Football Club plc had an operating profit of £7.3 million on a turnover of £25.2 million, thanks largely to merchandising and brand extensions such as Champs Cola, which were worth £5.3 million, up from just £828,000 five years earlier. Besides soda, the club was soon branding lager, wine, even champagne. Selling the brand seemed to observers a more stable source of income than relying on winning games week after week. The club opened a Megastore at Old Trafford in 1994 and spent heavily (£13 million) to upgrade Old Trafford

And so on and on... kinda like Bayern Munich. Smart business men made ManUtd one of the richest clubs in the world.

    That's a huge difference.
