He can play out wide as well can't he? Would loan him out anyway if we actually want to see him progress to the first team otherwise he was a player for the development squad. Looked good from all the highlights I've seen and scored a few crackers.

FORMER Rangers midfielder Liam Burt is on the look-out for a new club - after leaving Celtic for a second time.

SunSport understands that the 20-year-old Scottish youth international's contract has expired and his future will be away from Parkhead.

Eyebrows were raised last August when the 20-year-old Scottish youth team star crossed the Old Firm divide, signing up for Celtic's development squad after being released after five years coming through the ranks at Ibrox.

In fact, this wasn't the first time Burt had moved between these two historic Glasgow rivals.

Parkhead youth scouts had been keeping tabs on him ever since he jumped ship from Celtic's academy system back in 2014.

Burt made just three first-team appearances in his time in his time in Govan but trained regularly with the first team during the Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha eras.

He did well on his return to Celtic too - grabbing a goal on his debut for the Parkhead first team in the form of a deciding penalty for Celtic's Under-21 side in a Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup tie against Queen's Park.

The Scotland Under-21 player - who captained his country at Under-17 and Under 19 level - scored seven goals in 12 games for Celtic's development squad in all - and had impressed Neil Lennon and the Parkhead side's development coaches.

He even grabbed a hat-trick and two assists in a 6-0 win for Celtic's reserves against Stenhousemuir, teaming up well with Leigh Griffiths.

But it wasn't enough for him to displace the likes of Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic in those positions in the club's first team, though.

With the club declining the option of a second year on his deal, his future will be away from Parkhead and there is already believed to be plenty of interest in his signature from clubs on both sides of the border.

Perhaps that is why he doesn't appear to be getting too concerned about his future.

On a visit to Loch Lomond, the player posted an image on his Instagram account with the words 'Loch Lomond Juniors' written on it.

Liam Burt is attracting interest from the English Championship after Celtic decided against taking up the option of a second year on his contract.

The midfielder had been at the centre of a social media riddle with mystery surrounding his future after he signed a two-year deal last summer.

But Record Sport can confirm the 21-year-old is set to exit the Hoops for a second time just 12 months after returning to Parkhead from Rangers.

Scotland Under-21 star Burt featured twice in the Challenge Cup - scoring the winning penalty on his debut back in August as the young Hoops beat Queen’s Park in a shootout.

But his hopes of pushing on to become a first team regular were limited with the likes of Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic dominating the attacking midfield role.

QPR boss Mark Warburton handed Burt his senior debut while at Rangers and is a known admirer.

And Burt is understood to have interest on both sides of the border as he weighs up his next move.

There is no indication that the club will let him go , if this was the case it would have been made official alongside hayes and simo , I think there is nothing to lose in extending his contract and giving him a chance to get closer to the squad ,will it happen ? If he is keen enough and puts in the effort why not ,I see a year with a further option to extend .

His contract is not up until next year. So I’m assuming someone will need to purchase him.
