There is no question that Griffiths gradual return to form since the winter break was a key part in us opening up such a big gap over the past couple of months at the top of the table. He is 29 so if he can build on that return to form we still could see Griffiths at Celtic for a few years yet if he can maintain his focus and form.

ONLY 29 players have hit the 100-goal milestone for Celtic during the club’s illustrious 132-year history. On August 30, 2018, Leigh Griffiths joined those coveted ranks, becoming the first player to do so since John Hartson 13 years prior.

The striker’s century was marked by a typically cultured left-foot free-kick against FK Suduva in the play-off round of last season’s UEFA Europa League, after which he said: “To get the 100th goal is a big relief, and I’m delighted. The last person to do it was John Hartson, so I’m in good company, but I can’t rest on that.

“I need to keep moving forward and try to score as many goals as I can now. Not a lot of players have scored 100 goals for a club like Celtic so to be in that kind of company is great and I just want to keep scoring goals.”


Griffiths would take some time away from football later that season, but has since returned brimming with enthusiasm and an eye for goal.

To this end, he signalled his competitive comeback with another sublime free-kick in yet another European qualifier, this time against Nomme Kalju in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round at Paradise in July, 2019.

After finding the net in Celtic’s 5-0 home win, the forward said: “It was a massive personal achievement to hit 100 last year, and I’m desperate to keep adding to that tally. You could tell by my reaction to the Kalju goal how much I enjoyed it. Words can’t describe how good a feeling that was when the ball hit the back of the net.

“I had a great feeling as soon as the ball left my foot and got over the wall. Bainy said from behind he just knew it was in. I was absolutely delighted.”

Since then, Griffiths has taken his Hoops goal tally to 115. Should he reach 118, he'll become one of theclub's top 20 goalscorers of all time.
