Rodgers also offered upbeat news on striker Leigh Griffiths.

The hitman is back in Scotland having failed to make the trip but the boss says his setback isn’t serious.

He added: “No. It was just his thigh. Hopefully when we get back he will be ready to train with the team. I will get a report on that when I get back.

“The medical team is saying it is just a painful thigh problem for him, but it’s not anything major.

“Sometimes you can pull your thigh and be out for up to three months but I don’t think it’s that.”

Hope he gets back to full fitness asap and gets out of the cycle he seems to be in with niggling problems one after another.
I'd love him to get a prolonged injury free period so he can battle it out with the other two lads for the starters place.....good situation to have such talent up front all vying for the gaffer's eye.

Coincidentally, I definitely think Griff's shot himself in the foot in BR's eyes somewhere along the way and therefore is maybe seen as third choice....hope he gets the chance to get back to the goal machine we all know he can be and that he doesn't just drift off to some other team because he can't stop the nonsense.

If Dembele sticks around and plays up front with Edouard then Griffiths is in for a long, frustrating season.

Rodgers is a firm believer in squad rotation. He'll get his opportunities to step up..

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has suffered a fresh Euro injury blow after being ruled out for up to three weeks.

The Celtic striker was crocked for the Champions League win over Alashkert on Tuesday with a thigh problem.

Boss Brendan Rodgers revealed Griff could be out until next month — ruling him out of at least another two Euro ties.

He said: “Leigh, along with Jonny Hayes, is probably two or three weeks away. We’ll know more in a few weeks’ time.

“It’s really unfortunate for him but that’s how football works.

“For any player, when you miss a period of pre-season it’s always difficult, especially if you’ve worked hard.

“You want to be at a good level and get as much of your fitness in during this period, so it’s unfortunate for any player that’s out.”

    Always breaking down now..

If it happens soon after he next comes back, I'd genuinely think about selling him in January..

    It's a problem though now..

He genuinely pulls up in game's or in training quite often due to calf problems..

Would be interesting to know how many time's he's been injured the last year or 2..

Been near constant since about September, feels like he's out 3 weeks comes back for 1 or 2 games out 3 weeks back and repeat.

Missed nearly all the CL games, most hun games and I think one of or both the Cup finals? among loads of other games.

Last I remember him breaking down in a game was Hibs at home. Had just scored inside 15 minute's then calf went again and he was smashing the turf..

The rest are always in training or that..

Sure he got treatment or an op for his calves but that and his thighs have been a recurring thing now..

    It's definitely a real concern..

Aye, just looking it up there and he only started 20 matches last season (out of 60?) and came on as a sub 19 times. Quite an even 20/20/20 split of starting, sub and not playing. He started more games in Deila's last season alone than he has since.

Started only 42 out of 121 games under Rodgers.

Can be attributed to Dembele's form but even he was out a lot last year..

Might be something in him playing constantly under Ronny and no picking many injuries up and stop start under Brendan but still training intensely..
