LEIGH GRIFFITHS has been handed a brutal Celtic knockback from Ange Postecoglou as he tells him: "Look for opportunities elsewhere."

The Hoops outcast looks set to find a new club this month with Premiership rivals Dundee preparing to cut his season-long loan deal short.

Griffiths was handed a contract extension in the summer by Celtic but was sent to Dens Park for the campaign with his time at Parkhead looking over.

James McPake hoped to help the Scotland international recapture his form and help shoot his Premiership new boys to safety.

But club chiefs have been left unimpressed with his return of just two goals in 14 outings this season.

Asked about Griffiths, Ange said: "He'll probably be looking at opportunities elsewhere

 

Dundee also remain in talks with Celtic over the Leigh Griffiths’ situation. He is on loan but Dundee want to cut their financial contribution.

It could lead to Griffiths terminating his Celtic contract but if he does that then he is likely to have other offers, as a free agent.

McPake admitted: “He trained today and has trained all week.

“He scored in a game against Forfar on Tuesday night and set up two goals as well.

“We are still in dialogue with Celtic, it is ongoing and we are awaiting clarity on that.

“There is dialogue going on with Celtic regarding a couple of things

 

There is still a future for him elsewhere,pure cliche but he just needs to focus on his game and get back to doing what he does best.

Leigh Griffiths could be without a club at the end of January after Celtic decided to terminate his contract.

The Hoops striker will remain at Dundee on loan until the end of the transfer window but will then be allowed to leave Parkhead.

Mailsport understands the club have triggered a clause in the one-year deal he signed last summer, which allows Celtic to cut him loose.


Griffiths will stay at Dens Park for now and is included in the Dark Blues’ squad for Tuesday night’s Premiership clash against Livingston.

But the 31-year-old’s future is up in the air after Celtic informed him of their decision last week.

Dundee had initially decided to cut Griffiths ’ loan spell short and send him back to Parkhead.

But after learning that Celtic had activated the termination clause, gaffer James McPake will keep Griffiths until January 31 before deciding whether to offer him a longer-term deal.

If he doesn’t, the former Scotland star will be able to explore other options as a free agent.

It ends Griffiths’ eight-year stint at Celtic after joining from Wolves in 2014.

He scored 123 goals in his time at Parkhead, winning seven Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and four League Cups.

How do you get in that shape as a professional footballer at 31?

I’d love to know how many calories he eats a day. Must be 7,000+, assuming he puts in half arsed training sessions.

 

I feel like he’s in for an almighty shock when he’s no longer getting £10k put in his bank account every week.
