Will be happy if rumours true and his contract cancelled, should never have been given it

Would be surprised if anyone hired him again after this. He's done, and rightly so.

Already spiraled out of control but he'll be worse if he's released after what he's done..

    Only himself to blame..

Feel sorry for his weans but..

There'll still be clubs in the scottish League 1/2 that'll take a punt of him, Clyde signed Goodwillie after he was charged with rape.

This.. He will get a contract somewhere that's for sure, it might be outside of Scotland but he will get one..

Delighted the club has taken this stance if true.. Such a waste of talent

I have a hard time believing Celtic would actually terminate his contract. He's more or less in the clear legally and while it's still dodgy as all sin, the bar for getting 'cancelled' in football is pretty * high. They don't like terminating contracts, we all know that, and they're down 1 probably 2 strikers this summer already. I think they'll wait til the season starts and stick him back in the team.

If Leigh has been found not to have committed any criminal offence I can’t see how Celtic can just terminate his contract. Not sure it works like that.

Depends what's in the contract and you can be sacked in a job for things that are not criminal.

That's not actually true. With certain crimes, at least, intent is a key component of guilt, theft for example in Scots law is defined as ‘the taking or appropriating the property of another without the true owner’s consent and with the intent to deprive the owner of that property.’

Very true, my friend's a legal aide and always says about the loopholes and technicalities of Scots Law. Things like'not proven' etc are good examples of it.

There will be certain provisos in his contract.
    As with all players.

Bringing the reputation of the club into disrepute, online behaviour guidelines etc etc.

If you sign a contract with any company these things are always included.

Griff's behaviour may not have been illegal, but there would be more than enough there to take action, contractually at least.

    Very sad state of affairs.

I'm sure he does, but this is undoubtedly a club decision if he's binned.

Not proven is a weird one, it's functionally identical to not guilty.

No. Not guilty is done and can't be reopened. Not proven means probably guilty but not 100% sure, and open to try again with new evidence. It's actually a * brilliant law and should be used everywhere

edit: not a lawyer though, so that could be wrong

That's not the case. They are, according to a high court judge, identical in the eyes of the law.
