Celtic and Derby County have reportedly been watching Halifax Town striker Lee Gregory, along with the likes of Serie A duo Chievo and Catania.

Lee Gregory, a part-time electrician, has been in the best form of his life this season, scoring an incredible 31 goals in 38 games.

The 25-year-old has stunned Shayman supporters with not only his goal-rate but his loyalty by staying at the club despite intense speculation in the January window. Both Bradford City and Crawley Town were rumoured to have bid for the player, who took a day off working as an electrician so he could realise his dream and become a professional footballer, but no move materialised.

The idea that we would ever throw someone who wasn't even a professional footballer straight into a team potentially playing in the Champions League is absolute pish. This is a non-starter.

Could you imagine being non league, then jumping into the Champions League. You would be shiteing yourself.

Then the age old question of how does he cope with the Champions' League, well it's maybe lost on people just how much of a dream it is for players, who never expected to be playing on that stage ever, to be there. Maybe they can't handle it, but i'm more of the opinion if the guy is good, fit and confident they might just think, "Hold on a minute, this is the game of my life here," and be right up for it.

Anyway, he looks like a good player.

Says absolutely nothing about his football ability. Says that lower league wages are not brilliant and the guy is smart as football doesn't always work out, talented players always get lost in lower leagues.

Does that mean I want him here? No.

If he was 18 or 19 Id maybe entertain it for a minute, however as soon as I read "25 year old electrician" I gave up hope.

to be fair, charlie austin was working as a bricklayer before swindon town picked him up. fair enough, he was about 20/21 at the time and probably a lot more room to improve his game, but regardless of that sometimes good players do slip through the net, so i think it might be a bit unfair to dismiss him as pish on the basis he hasnt been picked up by a bigger team yet.

saying this, i still think it would be too big a jump to go from non-league to champions league, but i could see him jumping straight into a lower half championship team and still doing a job (and i dont just mean the wiring and lighting fixtures)

Well we were interested in Jamie Vardy, if I remember correctly, who will play in EPL next season (he also scored decent amount of goals in championship). Maybe he can turn out to be another Vardy or Austin, but that's 50-50 gamble tbh.
