Tottenham have ruled out a move for the former Arsenal, Chelsea and Portsmouth midfielder, who is a free agent after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this year
    EXCLUSIVE
    By David Craddock

Celtic are lining up a move for former Arsenal and Chelsea star Lassana Diarra, Goal understands.

Diarra is a free agent after leaving Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this year and has been linked with moves to Tottenham and a return to his native France.

Spurs have ruled out a move for the midfielder, and Celtic have now opened talks as they look to lure the former Real Madrid man to Scotland.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila is keen to add the 29-year-old to his squad as he looks to bolster his midfield options after an indifferent start to the season.

Bringing Diarra to Celtic Park would be something of a coup for Deila as he looks to lead them to success domestically and in Europe in his first season in charge of Celtic.

Diarra came close to a move to QPR during the summer transfer window, but the move fell through at the last minute.

    * *. I saw the thread title and thought this was going to be another post that should be in the player suggestion thread because there is no way we could be getting linked with him.

Not sure how reliable goal.com is, but this would be massive if it came off. Not getting my hopes up just yet though

One of the most under rated players of the last decade IMO. Biggest compliment I could pay him is I thought he was the only guy that came close to replacing Makelele at Madrid.

What a signing he would be, played alongside Brown and with Johansen slightly advanced.

No way we could afford his wages. The guy went from Real Madrid to Anzhi Makhachkala just for the big bucks, he'll be back in France if he goes anywhere.

As green says, no chance, epl to real Madrid to Russia tells me he hasn't been under 60 grand in years..

Would be the answer in the anchor role though, top player ..

Would be a 'good' signing comerically. Cant help but feel this has Ian Wright or Ljungberg wrote all over it .

EDIT: Christ he's only 29? Thought he was in his early 30's at least, might be a decent signing after all.

No, his injury record alone makes him worthless.

    Never liked him.

But with his pedigree he'd surely be a good player at this level.

    Can't see it happening.

Would be a great signing though and would fit perfectly in one of the two holding roles in Ronnys preferred 4231 formation.
