I didn’t think a whole lot of him at Barca. Obviously talented and very young, but a career that could easily go either way.

But after that tournament, he’s a superstar.

 

You don't get 50+ games and not have something about you at that age.

Even if it isn't great performance after great performance, they've clearly seen something that demands game time and development.

The tournament is likely the making of him. But much like Fati and any other youngster the world over, everyone and their dug needs to remember he is just 17. He will blow hot and cold at times.
It's an unusual sort of talent to be top of your game every year from debut season onwards.

Someone told me today that due to his age and German law he was not allowed to "work" after 10pm so had to be substituted before then. Don't know if it's true, just passing it on

 

I posted on him here before he was known last year, longtime a rising star in La Masia the true litmus test for me was when he debuted under Xavi with the 1st team as a 15 year old. That night I posted that his stardom was undeniable, the intangible that separate the game’s great is fairly evident IMHO when you witness the full package of what this kid does…how effectively & relentlessly he dribbles opponents…how consistently he makes the right decisions…how perfectly weighted a key pass is delivered…how much his play elevates for the occasion when many shrink

I’d flatly reject the notion he’s suddenly a superstar, he was the protagonist in the Barca team this year - it’s unprecedented to have that impact and be a record breaker to the degree he already has been now at 17

It is the Lamine Yamal era…I hope Barca can pair him with Nico because there’s a synergy there that is explosive ala MSN

 

Ridiculous player, genuinely think he has a chance to be this generation's Messi.

 

His mentality impressed me. Things weren't coming off for him in the first half, but he raised his game and was effective in the second.

After Messi started to slow down (he's still elite), I've been very uncomfortable with players like Mbappe, Bellingham, Haaland and even Vinicius really being hailed as the next superstars/balon d'or winners. None of those guys come anywhere close to the talent of Messi, granted nobody does and probably ever will.

But Lamal is very, very special. Definitely the most exciting talent in world football and will likely stay there for the next 15 years if his attitude and application match it.

 

Like Deco commented on recently, some players you know from the first moment that they are unlike others - Lamine is absolutely that, he will be a marvel to enjoy for the next 10-15 years
