    It will be difficult.

For the front 3 we have Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo, João Félix, Diogo Jota, Pedro Neto, Rafael Leão, Gonçalo Guedes, Rafa Silva, Pedro Gonçalves, Otávio, Daniel Podence, Ricardo Horta and I am probably missing a couple more. Not even counting the strikers like André Silva or Gonçalo Ramos.

Think it's gonna be near on impossible till he goes to a bigger league. Which is inevitable.

Trincao another one. Was watching Braga vs Sporting last night live. Didn't realise he'd joined the latter.

Although I'd have Jota over him.

Ridiculous strength in depth, given Portugal only has a population of 10 million.

Meanwhile Scotland, with 5.5 million, has attacking options of Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams, Ryan Fraser, James Forrest and Ryan Christie.

    How depressing.

After the world class talents in Bernardo, Ronaldo (not a winger), Felix and Diogo Jota the rest will all be there or thereabouts comparable to our Jota after this season IMO.

Still huge strength in depth but not quite as strong as the list would suggest.

Rafael Leão won Serie A player of the season and is a bit ahead of the others as well. Milan could probably get ~100M€ for him right now.

The way I see it there are 5 guaranteed spots (Ronaldo, Bernardo, Félix, Diogo Jota and Rafael Leão) and 1 potential spot to be disputed between 7-8 players. But the competition is very strong. Rafa Silva is Benfica's best player. Pedro Gonçalves is Sporting's best player. Otávio is possibly Porto's best player. The Wolverhampton trio (Pedro Neto, Podence and Gonçalo Guedes) have some caps under their belt and are 20-40M€ players. Ricardo Horta reached the Portuguese NT while playing for Braga and just signed for Benfica for 15M-20M€ (TBC).

If Ronaldo was not the national symbol he is, performance wise even he could be left out of the team at this point.

It wouldn't totally shock me if Benfica come in for him next summer, feel like he could make a difference to their team currently, and he's only getting better.

Unless he performs under expectations we will be unable to buy him.

Similar situation to Gonçalo Guedes, who is a terrific player, still young (25y old), hardcore Benfica fan and just moved to Wolverhampton for 33M€ + add-ons. His father even publicly said some weeks ago that Gonçalo would like to come back to Benfica but we cannot compete with bids above 20M€.

Benfica uses 3 offensive mids (David Neres on the right, Rafa Silva behind the striker and seems like it will be Ricardo Horta on the left). Jota would add depth to our squad and is certainly talented enough to play for us (with the plus of loving the club since he was a child) but (i) at the moment Celtic is a better place for his career; and (ii) if and when you decide to sell him, any midtable team from the Premier League will be able to offer 30M€+.

Think the biggest benefit that Benfica has is the 30% sell on, a club in the EPL might offer, say, £27 million, but £8.1 million would go to Benfica, so Benfica would have a good chance of a smaller offer being accepted.

How many goals does the 100 million Leao have for Portugal?

As I said (and you’ve confirmed with their values) I believe after this season that Jota will be comparable to the rest I.e. a 20 to 40 million Euro player.

C Ronaldo is C Ronaldo, one of the greatest players of all time. Portugals best player of all time, your record scorer and still one of the biggest attacking threats in world football even at 37.

A guy doing it for Milan even if he’s * when he goes to the International team will get the call though. It was obvious to every fan watching Van Dijk at us he was by far the best Dutch CB, possibly player even then, and he didn’t earn the call up until he left. A good CL showing is imperative for that chance of a call up.

Hun games and Europe will bolster his chances in comparison with the likes of a Leao as an example although I will caveat that by saying AC Milan have been in a poor league for a while now albeit it’s now improving at a rate of knots.

There’s all sorts of variables as well, Van Gaal had Petta in a few Dutch squads whilst he was at Celtic but he kept pulling out injured. The Huns had several regular Dutch internationals at that time as well.
