Johansen off form? Or not good enough

Has he replaced joe ledley? Don't think so.
I don't understand why we don't have Stuart Armstrong in our midfield alongside brown. It's a real problem area for us IMO. That's why we Arnt controlling games anymore, without brown we are dreadful. Kayal deserves his chance now but he probably won't get it. No depth in cm anymore

I've been wondering why we are looking like schoolboys a lot of times this season and it was the same in europe last season under Lenny and I really came to conclusion that this is Stefans fault. You remember how much Ledley was doing of "invisible" job ? Pressure, letting go, changing position, tracking back, making room etc. Well I've been watching Stefan closely lately and he teoretically does the same but he makes the wrong choices. Lot of times he looks completely lost and is making the wrong thing in a given second or two.

Also his "world class" vision and composure just isn't in his game. I thought he is going to be like Nakamura but he is a lightweight CM who very rarely shoots and if he does it looks pish and weak.

He gives his all, no doubt has the heart and loves the club but I really think he is making does small mistakes far too often. I think does small mistakes are the key to why other teams keep dominating us with possession and when on counter they are ripping us a new one.

I'd try him in a different formation or simply drop him for Kayal. I mean sure, Kayal will not offer us much forward but he can keep us tight. Look how much changed when he came on against Zagreb. You might think that we'll be lacking creativity even further, thats true but to be honest Stefan isn't making any difference. No shot potential, VERY rarely a through ball or a tap over the defenders to put our strikers. Something has to be changed about him and the truth is it's not going to happen because Deila knows him a lot better than any of our other players. And he's Norwegian

Off form and not suited to the system. I'd rather Kayal in there just now though.

 

We were already out of Europe when he signed.

definitely give this guy some more time before we write him off .

 

I see him like the Harry Potter books: he's quite good but everyone seems to either think he's amazing or think he's utter gash and I really don't get either position.

 

Defos just off form

 

Looked like a rough diamond last year and I really liked the look of him. Started poorly this season and thought he'd get better, worryingly though he hasn't. Not sure what to think anymore.

 

I like his * moments. Like when he sprints 40 yards past our forwards to close down the opposing right back.
Or last night, leaving the attacker in the box and chasing the winger.
He is a bit like an over-excited puppy at times.

 

He lacks experience at this level, but is playing every game.

He is a naturally offensive player, without much of a defensive side to his game as far as I can see. But Commons has the attacking midfield berth sewn up.

I think Ronny is sort of shoe-horning Johansen into the side because he believes he is good enough. A bit like (don't laugh) if Liam Henderson had signed for Man u and (don't laugh) Lenny got the Man U job.

Johansen is off form and needs to be dropped. Ronny should recognise this by now.

 

He's a decent player who shouldn't be playing every game. Definitely has potential but Kayal should be playing.

 

Great post, nearly everything what I think about him. Especially his impact on the defensive part of the game regarding coordination and covering space makes him dangerous for us to let him play.

 

Does anyone know what system Johansen played in under Deila at Stromsgodset? Seen a lot of people say he isn't suited to the system, but I'm pretty sure he played in the same system before, and his performances made us sign him. I thought he would be one player that would really kick on when Deila came in, due to him understanding Deila's formation and style of play, but he has been poor.

 

Stefans not the problem.

 

He played as a holding midfielder in a 4-3-3 I think.

 

He is an awful defender- he can't tackle. He is like Commons, you wouldn't expect Commons to play where Johansen does, because he can't tackle either. Johansen is suited to play where Commons does.
