Celtic want to bring Hiroki Yamada, the Japanese midfielder, to the club on trial.

Neil Lennon confirmed that the 24-year-old has been watched and efforts will be made to get him to Scotland. Yamada, a small, goalscoring playmaker, plays for Jubilo Iwata and broke into his national team this year.

"He can play left side or off the striker," said the Celtic manager. "He looks okay, but we'll not have a real idea until we've seen him over here. I don't think there would be any money involved."

Lennon intends to sign one or two players in January and has been at Huddersfield Town's last two matches to watch striker James Vaughan, although he said there were also other potential targets involved in the games against Burnley and Bolton Wanderers. "I know we've been linked with Vaughan," said Lennon. "He is on a list of potential targets but there are others who caught the eye as well."

    Doesn't everyone.

That being said we should be looking there more, given the bargains that have been found recently, such as Kagawa who didn't cost much but made Dortmund a huge profit.

Also, he must be alright because its no mean feat to get in their national team given that he is competing with Kagawa and Honda for a regular spot.

Yamada is available on a free.

Lennon confirmed: “We’re looking to bring him over and have a look at him.

“John Park has watched him a couple of times now and we’ve seen some footage. It’s always good to get them in and see them up against the rest of the players and see how they cope with it.

Jubilo Iwata have just been relegated from the top flight and need to offload their best players.

Yamada also knows that if he’s to add to his two caps earned this year and make the World Cup squad he has to move on.

“He can play left side or off the striker. He looks OK, but we’ll not have a real idea until we’ve seen him over here.”

Yamada has scored 20 goals in 70 games for Jubilo and fits the identikit of a player Lennon has been crying out for to give variety to his team’s play.

He is known for having a very powerful and accurate shot from outside of the box.

He had played in Europe though :icon_mrgreen:

FTR I didn't think Mizuno was a bad player at all, he just barely got a game and I can see the same thing happening with this guy.

Ki was a mixed success and as I said Nakamura had played in Europe, Serie A no less so he was better equipped.

I'd take Mr Miyagi. He'd be a good captain.

Looks like a brilliant player. I can't wait to see what the team is like after the next window. Another fantastic find from the scouting guys. Free transfer is perfect too.
