I don't see an issue with the length of contract.

We've signed a 30 year old with plenty of years ahead of him if fit and we've shown some commitment to him as a player. * the sell on value as well.

Rather him rinse us for a couple year than * like Bitton who've been rinsing us for near enough 9 year ffs.

    It's the length of injuries.

Here's hoping, really wanted us to sign him when Lawell went for Ki, but I'm seriously doubting his fitness.

He has 49 Premier League appearances for Palace in the last two seasons. That's fairly decent fitness/ability wise.

I don't see him starting for us every week or running him into the ground.

We need a CM midfielder with experience. If anything happened to Cal Mac we'd be a in a real mess.

People are always going to bring up an injury history, and sometimes it doesn't work out (see Boerrigter), but on other occasions it works out fantastically well (Hartson, Agathe).

Personally I see McCarthy as one of the lowest risk signings we could make. I think he'll be great for us.

Agreed dude. Still 7 months with 4 hamstring jobs in 4 years too though.

Again, I’m glass half full - but he will be a top earner and a long contract so lots riding on it.

Similarly up front cost minimal for a guy of that quality.

Sure I read similar about Duffy when he signed... I'm not against him signing, I just have serious doubts about how much we'll actually get to see of him. *, I'm not even sure we have any medical or physio staff on the books to look after him these days, with the way things have been getting run of late.

He won't be a top earner not a chance mate .
I think he will be a brilliant signing for us if he stays fit can get some games together potential to be best midfielder in the league

I don't know it seems like a risk but I'm not sure if our collapse has made guys like Davis and Defoe seem better than they are. When we were playing well they were bang average.

You can get away with an older keeper. My main concern is do these guys fit into the managers system? He's already stated that age doesn't concern him if the players are fit and good enough.

55k a week at palace, no transfer fee, from the EPL.

Honestly don’t know dude - but I’ll be stunned if he’s not top 5 wage earners.

Good to get him here. Add some bite into midfield.

Palace fan here. Unfortunately he rarely played 90 mins, especially last season. Hodgson often brought him on around 70-75 minutes for Jairo Riedewald, to sure us up or help see out games. I don't think he has anywhere near the stamina of, say, James McArthur at this stage of his career. I can't see him playing a high tempo, pressing game for 90 mins.

I don't mean to sound negative about the signing, though. I liked him at Palace. Overall he was OK and isn't shy about throwing himself into challenges.

Great signing and just what we need, experienced and will boss it up in Scotland.

It is quite clear why we have given him a 4 year deal and others have tried to explain it earlier in the thread.

We couldn't afford him on a 2 year deal, instead of say 40k on a 2 year deal that other clubs would offer him we are offering him a 4 year deal at 15k.

We get the player we want and he gets the security and the money he wants.

Not that I would compare him to Messi but Barcelona are doing the same thing with the new contract for Messi, as do other clubs.
Barca can not afford to give Messi a contract of 500k a week for 2 years but they can give him a 5 years contract at 200k, I'm not using the exact numbers but I'm sure you guys get the idea.

A midfield trio of McGregor, McCarthy and Turnbull looks good on paper. Soro is capable of playing in some games in order to give McCarthy a rest at times. If McCarthy is managed wisely, i.e. no appearances on plastic pitches etc he will be fine. McCarthy will hopefully give McGregor confidence that there is a very competent and reliable defensive midfielder behind him. That should allow him to concentrate a bit more on his own game rather than worrying about covering for his midfield partner.
