Discuss James Forrest in the Celtic Chat area at TalkCeltic.net.
Very surprised at that.
Im fine with it but still would like another winger in along with Jota.
Deffo need another winger
How did I miss this? I could have made a fortune out of you by my sheer * mindedness alone. I thought he would have a good season, it never really materialised. There are loads of reasons for that. I don’t grudge him another contract though. He can still do a job as evidenced last week and having multiple championship winning players on the training field every day is invaluable.
I'd have given him 5 years, the beautiful wee * that he is.
5 years for his * alone
Definitely just to tick the 'homegrown player' box.
I’m not opposed to extending him, but he’s not anywhere near being first choice now and 4 years is mental given his recent injury history.
I can only assume it's reward for his service to the club.
Hopefully get Mikey Johnston signed up to a new long term deal as well
In my opinion service should only be praised if the player has declined bigger wages/opportunities to join elsewhere throughout their career here, had Kieran Tierney stayed with us instead of joining Arsenal on bigger wages, his service should have rightfully praised, Forrest has never had that kind of decision to make to question his loyalty since he broke into the first team, he could have never done better than us
Yeah i get what yer saying, i don't know if there has ever been any offers over the years for Jamsey, certainly in the case of KT we were never keeping him, even if he wanted to stay himself, no chance we were turning down 25 mil for any player, especially one dogged by injury.
Personally I'd been hoping we'd sign a new winger, even if we keep Jota, but I'm thinking that is unlikely after hearing this news. Still, Ange seems to think he can offer something going forward, hopefully he is right again.
Tierney forced a move.
The only time I remember Forrest even being linked with another club was Spurs over ten years ago. Even then it was just paper talk.
Absolute no brainer giving him a deal. He’s 31 in the summer. Still got plenty to give. Yes pace was his biggest asset early in his career but the assists and goals and overall game massively improved when Rodgers came in.
The level of disrespect to some of our current and former players is a bit of a joke these days tbh.
He’s had his injuries but think it gets exaggerated. Pushing 450 club appearances, 38 caps over 13seasons. Averages around 37 games a season.
He’s not my first pick right winger but he’ll be an very good squad player to have.
How do you know Forrest wouldn't have done the same had a similar offer been made to him when he was 22 years old?
Because Forrest didn’t go out his way to force a move, Tierney did?
Don’t blame KT for that either, we were ruining his career.
Only makes sense if he’s accepted lesser terms not same player anymore can’t even do half a season

Did Tierney go out his way to do that though? I'm not saying he was against it but from my understanding it was completely mutual between Tierney and Celtic.
