Jack Hendry could be making his way to English Championship side Burnley as new boss Vincent Kompany seeks defensive reinforcements.

Ex-Celtic stopper Hendry was first choice at the Belgium side following his £5million move from Oostende. But he eventually fell out of the picture and lashed out at manager Alfred Schreuder for his lack of game time as the 2021/23 campaign progressed. The Scotland defender finished with a flourish despite an uneven campaign.

Although Alfred Schreuder has now been replaced by new boss Carl Hoefkens, the ex-Dundee man's future remains somewhat uncertain and he was this week linked with a move to Turf Moor. Vincent Kompany has now taken over the recently relegated Lancashire club - after moving from Anderlecht - and is desperate to get them back into the English Premier League at the first time of asking.

And asked about the prospect of Hendry moving to Burnley, Kompany admitted he was looking at players in Belgium...but not at Anderlecht.

He said: "We are already close to some newcomers and hope to announce them in the coming days. There are some interesting profiles for us in Belgium, so it is possible that players from the Belgian League will come.

"But at the moment I don't think about getting players from Anderlecht. I don't want to harm my ex-club. That is far from my intention."

Burnley have reportedly tabled a bid for Scotland defender Jack Hendry.

The former Celtic stopper joined Club Brugge last season just weeks after Belgium rivals KV Oostende converted his loan into a permanent deal. Oostende made a quick buck after Hendry impressed during a six month spell from Parkhead in 2021.

The 27-year-old hasn't looked back and played in all six of FCB's Champions League group stage games last year, pitting his wits against the likes of Manchester City, PSG and RB Leipzig. Scotland international Hendry did fall down the pecking order early in 2022 but regained his place towards the end of the Jupiler Pro League campaign.

Clarets boss Vincent Kompany knows all about Hendry from his time in charge of Anderlecht and has now stepped up his interest.

The Daily Mail reports that the English Championship club have made an offer to bring the ex-Partick Thistle and Dundee ace to Turf Moor as Kompany attempts to lead Burnley back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

It's also said that Burnley have struck a deal with Cercle Bruges for Brazilian right-back Vitinho as Belgium and Manchester City legend Kompany raids his homeland for talent.

SCOTLAND defender Jack Hendry could be on his way to La Liga after Ronaldo-owned Real Valladolid launched a bid to loan the unwanted Club Brugge star.

Former Celtic stopper Hendry has been frozen out in Belgium despite only signing in a £4.5 million deal a year ago after he was not selected in the squads for their first couple of games this season.

Brugge boss Carl Hoefkens made it clear Hendry had no future at the club after insisting he had given every player at the club a chance to impress.

Burnley have been strongly linked with a move for Hendry, with new manager Vincent Kompany knowing about Hendry from his time in charge of Anderlecht.

But newly-promoted Real Valladolid want to sign Hendry on loan ahead of their return to the Spanish top flight against Villarreal this weekend.

Brazilian legend Ronaldo brought a 51 per cent stake in Valladolid in September 2018 and the 45-year-old is also the club's president.

Last season, former Celtic flop Saidy Janko, who has just been loaned to Bochum from Valladolid, showed how hands-on Ronaldo is.

He revealed: "Quite often we went to Ronaldo's house to play a little online gaming against the Juventus players Douglas Costa and Paulo Dybala.

"Once he just gave us all a Playstation 5 after a win.

"He's very sociable, and he'll have a coffee with you from time to time."

Hendry had appeared likely to sign for Burnley after Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany confirmed he will be bringing players in from his native Belgium.

The former Celtic stopper had a mixed first season at Brugge, after starting the campaign as first choice following his £5 million move from Oostende.

But he eventually fell out of the picture and lashed out at manager Alfred Schreuder for his lack of game time as the season progressed.

Although Schreuder has been replaced by new boss Carl Hoefkens, the ex-Dundee man's future remains uncertain and he was this week linked with a move to Turf Moor.

Kompany took over the relegated Lancashire club after moving from Anderlecht and is desperate to get them back into the English Premier League at the first time of asking.

And asked about the prospect of Hendry moving to Burnley, Kompany admitted he was looking at players in Belgium...but not at Anderlecht.

Sounds like he’s joined an Italian dessert shop.

Are we sure he’s not working behind the counter there?

Loves to act the Billy Big baws but then crumbles under the slightest pressure. He's just got absolutely nothing about him. Pathetic.

That wee cocky half smile he gave the ref at the end when he got booked. Aye good one lad...

At least you can put him in your team and still get a result.

Meanwhile here in Ireland, the footballing fraternity seem to be waiting until we assemble 11 superstars before our manager is expected to produce any results. Potential this, and progression that, the future looks bright... etc etc... yawn!
