Very true. Much like the Forster scenario though, we can’t afford to wait forever on an answer from Ajeti. It’s at least positive to see we’re working on alternatives though, in case they’re needed.

So many teams in that division are. Im sure i read one team spend 186% more than their revenue on wages. And who knows what impact lockdown might have.

But clubs will continue to spend what they can in the hope that they can reach the riches of the premier league.

He said he had heard we might be selling one or two. I'm sure Fry will be well aware of our financial strength hence why he is frantically utilising the media to try and ignite a bidding war.

There will definitely be teams in there who can afford him Brentford being one of them as they will likely now receive big fees from Benrahma and Watkins, if not others as well. I think they are one of the better run outfits in the league.

It was just something that had come up recently and been put under the spotlight that a lot of the clubs overspend chasing the promotion EPL dream or to try stay in EPL and don’t manage themselves well.

I think if Fulham had not gone back up they would have been one in that boat, similarly if Villa got relegated they spent over £120m last season just to scrape staying up.

It’s crazy the finances down there and this case with Toney shows it. There you have Weissman scoring goals for fun in Austria and a few in Europe, Sporar before him in Slovakia and Europa League yet a striker in the third tier with a year left on his contract looks like costing you more than either of those two.

Lenny has said before that he prefers to buy British if he can but in terms of value-for-money it's probably one of the worst areas to sign players from. It's also irritating that whilst Celtic must be one of the better-run clubs in Britain, if not Europe, we still cannot compete financially with even most Championship clubs these days. For a club that actually earns it's own income(as opposed to being bankrolled by some Arab, Chinese, American businessman or company), lives within it's means and has little or no debt we still find ourselves struggling to bring in higher-caliber signings because we've been outbid by some club with a 15'000 average attendance but who have some Billionaire throwing money at them or even living the high-life off the parachute payments. £100M for finishing bottom with £60M+ for the next 3 years. Nice work if you can get it. So much of the money is wasted in England too. The amounts thrown away by clubs like Everton, West Ham etc on duff signings, managers and agents is pretty much immoral. UEFA talk about financial regulation but I don't really see enough desire from them to really sort things out. Too much trouble, too many lawsuits and too many powerful clubs noses put out of joint.

But the point is that despite the lavish tv money, the wage bills at these teams is huge such is the desperation to get into the EPL. Take the tv money away and its unsustainable.

A lot of the teams we face in europe have lower wage bills and transfer spending even than us, but still have stronger and better coached squads than some of these championship teams.
Look at Middlesborough and the likes. They spend a lot and we would still scud them.

He looks like a good player to me but I wouldn’t be pressured into overpaying for him. Make a fair offer and then start looking at other targets.

Could argue that the fact Fry has shut up, could mean a deal is actually progressing :39:

Truth is, no one knows. I think we’re close to something though.
