Of course elite level sport requires intense and brutal training regimes, but the way you are presenting the gymnastics example is like you are defending the following:

    • Being physically hit, sometimes with a stick
    • Being shut in a store cupboard until they stopped crying
    • Bring starved for a week at a training camp
    • Following injury, the coach sending a photo wearing the leotard she is missing out on wearing at international event
    • Dragged across the floor by hair or leotard
    • Called ugly, fat and stupid
    • Surgical spirit poured on bleeding hands
    • AstroTurf under bars to encourage feet to be kept up
    • Paraded in front of teammates in underwear to be "fat shamed"
    • Cortisone shots and voltarol to perform with fractured limbs
    • The rife eating disorders and mental and physical torture
All of this from as young as 10 years old, at the hands of both male and female coaches.

I'm not aware of those allegations you listed - I'm only aware of the recently reported allegations from the Downie sisters of generally feeling 'fat shamed'.

Of course I would never condone any of the things you listed.

If this has been happening in top-level UK gymnastics, then clearly my original post deserves a hoof in its baws for being a bit of a fud.

    I'll read more about it!
