So our targets are loans from Chelsea, the same club who were raging with our treatment of Musonda, and strikers valued at £20m.

    Chancers.

A good DOF would be the best investment we could make this summer.

My intitial thoughts, had this down as total bollix. But seeing early reports that we are investigating these leaks as a criminal matter is very concerning. Hope for an official quote telling us this is utter nonsense.

Gutted with the type of players on that list tbh.

Could be a good thing that it's been leaked and have us look at other players.

I actaually think we have plenty of goals in central midfield.mgregor usually gets a barrowload but it hasn't been his best season, christie and rogic get u goals but they have been injured or unfit,a large part of the season.plus brown and ntcham get u a couple from there an all.what we need in cm is a younger brown type player.i would see what happens on the wings this year before signing anybody as I think mikey johnstone could have a bigger part to play next year.plus we have sinclaire, forrest, shved, arzani.

    we need 3 defenders,one cm,one striker.

There's a couple of potentially decent players on it tbf, but hope to * that isn't the full list. You'd like to think going for the historic 9 & 10 we'd be looking beyond Brandon Barker and Chelsea youth loans.

Why is Tierney specifically on it? Doesn't have an expiring contract, take it we'd just openly be considering selling to make up for missing out on CL money?

If the document is to be believed, this could be our squad options for 19/20 season:

    GK - Bain/Gordon/Hazard

    RB - Tommy Smith, Ralston

CB - Ajer, Zanka, Tomori, Simunovic

    LB - Tierney, Perraud, Hayes

CM - Brown, McGregor, Harper, Aribo, Mulumbu, Bitton

    CAM - Christie, Rogic, Henderson

    LM - Sinclair, Hayes, Barker

    RM - Forrest, Shved, Arzani

ST - Edouard, Griffiths, Bayo, Mousset

Tommy Smith - haven't seen a lot of him but appears to be experienced and reliable although not a glamorous target
Zanka - would be a good signing, would add some steel and physicality to our defence, internationalist
Tomori - impressed with what I seen of him at Derby, plenty of potential
Perraud - know nothing of him but could be a gem like Eddy
Harper & Arbo - would be surprised if we got both. Would take either. Strong, competitive, add some steel to help Brown out
Barker - very quick and direct but not enough quality, Hayes-esque
Mousset - would be a good signing

Wouldn't be the worst window although a bit sceptical about the quality of some of the players.

Not the worst squad, but you want something special going for 9 & 10, and not strong enough to do anything in Europe imo. RB would be a disaster area, you'd fancy any semi-decent winger against that.

Dealing in England has mostly went well for us, Hooper, Harston, Sutton, Ledley, Dembele, Forster and that's just a small fraction of good players we have signed from the English leagues.

Ah! Hope. Those were the days. Now it's like a best friend that i've lost touch with over the years. Lawwell has a lot to answer for.

Yep doesn't bode well if true. Some people trying to make a case for the players mentioned but (if we're honest) had sevco announced those players as their signing targets we'd have been p*ss*ng ourselves laughing.

The landscape was different almost 10 years ago when we signed Hooper, Forster and co.

Was certainly different when we signed Hartson, Sutton and Lenny almost 20 years ago.

The compensation loophole is definitely something we should exploit though, served us well in both Dembele and Ledley (and Matthews). It shouldn’t be a market we exclusively focus on though.

Wishful thinking, that we all do, but we have all been stung plenty times by this board. They've screwed over every manager since 2006, no reason to believe a returning Lennon after the reasons he left last time, is going to be treated any better this time around.

That really is something that has to be factored in. It isn't just the money, although that is obviously a huge factor, but the fact that the most moneyed clubs and franchises have squads of 70-80 players. Chelsea had something like 40 or 50 players on loan last year! A lot of these lads at clubs like that, like the boys we have had on-loan here, flops or not, are players we would have potentially signed permanently in the market ten years ago.

If the top 12 clubs ( I pick that number because of the top 6 in England, along with Juve, PSG, Bayern and the big three in Spain) have 60 players on their books each, that is 720 of the current and future best players in Europe tied-up. That is going to completely distort the market. Previously, those players would have been spread over a bigger range of clubs. It is why the CL, despite Ajax's efforts this season, is such a closed shop.

Scouting is absolutely massive now, as is the loan market. Every transfer has always been a gamble, but there are fewer and fewer 'sure things'. When Lennon, Sutton and Hartson signed for us for big money they were all more likely to succeed than fail, for fairly self-explanatory reasons. Who was the last player we signed that you just knew was going to be quality for us?

We have to make sure that we sign the best players available domestically, I don't mean *-nilly signings for the sake of it,(so * off McKenna and O'Donnell!) but it has proved stupid to have argued over a few bob with Hibs for McGinn and Turnbull may well be the same. On top of that we have to maximise 'Dembele' type signings: Aribo and Harper and other lads like them with real potential. We need to use that rule to our advantage. On top of that there are plenty other clubs who have used the loan system better than we have. We need to maximise that. There seems to be a lack of strategy with loan signings, even the ones that have worked out. Benkovic only seems to have been brought in because we didn't get Scott McKenna! We need to make sure that any loan signings don't hamper the development of our own youth players, that they are properly motivated and that they are signed for a purpose, not just as a last minute afterthought . Eintracht Frankfurt nearly made a European final with three loan players as the spine of their team and two others who appeared regularly as squad players. We need to adapt as well as these clubs have to how the game has changed to make bigger inroads in Europe.
