    Nope I listen to:
Aesop Rock, Rakim, G Rap, AZ, MF Doom, MF Grimm, Big Pun, Big L, El-P, Apathy, RA the Rugged Man, Brother Ali, Canibus, Nas (first 2 LPs), A Tribe Called Quest, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Mos Def, Talib kweli, Daddy Kane, Immortal Tech, Public Enemy, AZ, Greydon Square, Lowkey, Pharoahe Moch, Percee P, GZA, Ghostface, Rae, Celph Titled, Action Bronson, Joe Budden, Death Grips, Dead Prez, Jean Grae, Black Thought, KRS One, Killer Mike, Scarface, Dialated Peoples, Chino XL, Necro, Jedi Mind, Guru, Ill Bill.......

Mac Miller, Meek Mill, Drake, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa are in the same category as Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. They are horrible commercial bullshit, if they were born 10 years earlier they wouldn't even be rapping as a hobby. Listen to them all you want but dont make them out to be anything other than that

That's a very good list! Can't believe you missed out J. Cole though? On par with Kendrick for me.

You all leave Beastie Boys out of your early lists therefore you can't have an opinion on new hip hop. :bbpd:

Getting the feeling you might of just copy and pasted a list of 90's rappers and deleted the ones I listed. So you argee with me that rap was in a better state in the 90's? Think you might of misunderstood and thought I meant it is better now.

As for your list, I can be honest and say I don't listen to them all. But Joe Budden, Rakim, AZ, MF Doom, Big Pun, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Big Daddy Kane, Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface, GZA, Dead Prez, KRS One and Jedi Mind Tricks are all great shouts. Listen to them regularly.

What you said about commercial bullshit I also agree with. I hate that kind of music, but I seem to still like some of Drakes music mostly to chill out to. Wiz Khalifas mixtapes are much better than his albums, seems to do his own thing more. Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Pusha T and Big Sean are still relatively new, I can understand that they are commercial but I'm still enjoying them. When they get to where Lil Wayne is and just pump out constant *, then I will stop listening to them. And apart from Meek Mill, I listen to them as part of Good Music which has Kanyes production behind it... call him commercial too but he is an outstanding producer.

I have to completely disagree about Mac Miller and Kid Cudi though. Their music isn't commercialised, both are relatively unknown in the UK apart from maybe a song or two. Why Day N Night got so much coverage over here I will never know, but if you ask someone to name a Cudi song I bet that is the only one they know. His lyrics and messages are fantastic, he is very much against the whole 'being controlled by the industry' idea. Very clever man. Mac Miller I discovered when working in America last summer. Talented young rapper who is certainly not commercial. Not yet anyway.

From where my iPod? if you want me to prove it to you I will.
Check my posts in this thread, I have discussed many of these artists.
I listened to Biggie, Ice Cube etc when I was really young, I still think they're good I just dont listen to them anymore.

I didn't misunderstand you by the way, I know you didnt say its better than the 90s but you listed a bunch of * rappers and claimed its the best since the 90s
If you said modern MCs like Jay Electronica, El-P, Despot, MC Ride, Billy Woods, Danny Brown, Copywrite, Killer Mike, then I would agree its in a good place, instead you listed a bunch are * braggadocious rappers with more 'internet buzz' than talent
BTW Mac Miller and Kid Cudi are known in the UK don't be ridiculous and of course they are commercial, how could you listen to their music and think they are anything but that. You don't need a machine behind you to release commercial music
I like Kendrick though, Slaughterhouses first album was good and Eminem's early work is obvious great to.

You can't just dislike Mac Miller and Kid Cudi because they are well known, which I don't really think they are. Of course real fans of rap know them but I'd be surprised if anyone I know knows of Mac Miller, Cudi is a bit more well known but not much.

However, their content and lyrics are much more real and not at all like the commercial stuff in the charts. You have to respect that. As I said, I understand not liking artists because they are fake and commercialised... but you can't dislike talent just because it is well known.

I honestly couldn't agree more with this.

Hip-hop has changed, the likes of Cudi & Drake almost create their own genre.

I said they are well known in the UK because I disagreed with your statement that they weren't, that has absolutely nothing to do with the reason I don't think they're good, So I don't know where you are getting that from.
Wu Tang Clan got tons of radio play in the 90s and they are my favourite hip hop group of all time, popularity has nothing to do with it.

How is this not a commercial song, I get that not all his songs are like that but artists like Nicki Minaj release material that is not intended for the radio, shes still a commercial artist

as for Mac Miller, songs about cothes, partys and money is not exactly deep. Its also considered mainstream content

I'm not interested in the message(or lack of) they have to say and im not impressed with them lyrically, again like them all you want but they shouldn't be mentioned in the same breathe as Biggie, GZA and co

I get fed up with the Drake argument. Seems to me people who think they're rap purists just deny themselves the chance to listen to the great music Drake puts out because it doesn't fit into their neatly defined little box. Who gives a * what genre it is. Drake is more of an RNB artist than a rapper but as long as the music is good who cares, there's no point comparing him to this idealistic nostalgia for the 90s.

You have literally used the only commercial song that Cudi has. Not only that, a song that was purely made famous because of the remix by Crookers which is the one you used.

I can tell you haven't listened to all of Mac or Cudi's music. Only the few that are maybe released as singles. At least I admit to not listening to all of you obscure, yet probably brilliant 90's MC's.

I'm getting sick of the debate and sick of the word commercial to be honest.

Yeh, my problem aswell, they 'rap experts' who know so much more than everyone else. They saw someone in a video or picture with Lil Wayne, so they get put in the 'commercial' box without actually listening to their music or their lyrics.

I'm a Mac miller fan but it's just silt t say he's not commercial and then use the Donald trump song as an example just look at the lyrics http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/macmiller/donaldtrump.html
Best day ever is probably one of his less commercial songs but even then with the production it becomes commercial because it has a catchy beat

Yeh true, that was my bad. But if he was that commercial surely he would get played on UK radio now? and I don't mean by Zane Lowe or Radio 1 xtra.

Not really people forget Mac is an independent artist who has created his status without the backing of a major label which s why so far his success in the UK market has been limited also the fact he only broke out in a major way in the USA last year explains why he isn't well known in the UK yet I've seen his videos played on kiss, MTV base, flava and a few other music channels so he's obviously gain support over here
