Wonder what the fee is for him? Hopefully it's close to what we paid for him.

I do actually think he's a good player, everybody has been duff this season so I try not to take it out on any individual player, but even just putting form aside he was very injury prone, good luck to the lad

That indicate the last year of his contract is optional.

 

Let him go. He's not settled, he is not key part of our plans for the rest of this season or in the future so I don't see why anyone is too stressed by this development. Perhaps the fee may've been better if this was more normal but in a covid effected football economy @HTG , definitely not something to get in a twist over.

 

Real shame. Last season looked a revelation, remember thinking how has this man never been discovered until now. This year, looked a completely different player. Maybe home sickness crippled him, will never know I guess

 

Wish him all the best, put in some good performances last season and gave it his all whenever he played, hopefully his return back home will help him mentally.

CELTIC will land £800,000 when homesick star Hatem Elhamed completes his move back home to Israel this week to sign for Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

The full back has played just 17 minutes since the Europa League defeat to AC Milan at the San Siro in December and made it clear he wanted to return home.


Four Israeli clubs - Hapeol Be'er Sheva, Maccabi Haifa, Beitar Jerusalem and Maccabi Tel Aviv - all expressed interest in the 29-year-old.

But he opted to return to Be'er Sheva and will sign a three-and-a-half year deal with the club that Celtic paid £1.6 million to in July 2019 and manager Yossi Abukasis was delighted to have won the race for their former player.

He said: "We are very happy that Hatem has chosen to return here.

"For me, he is a great guy and we think we have signed the best defender in Israel, so we are looking forward to him playing for us again."


Hoops boss Neil Lennon revealed this weekend Elhamed had failed to settle in Glasgow.

He said: "He was going through a really difficult time, his wife and son were back in Israel and he was here on his own. He was really struggling with life away from the training ground and stadium.


We have to take into consideration the human factor on that. I wouldn't say he was suffering with depression, but he was very low, so we have made the right decision for him and the club.

"I think their transfer window is open, so there are no issues with that."

 

So we have lost 800 grand on this guy ?

Good luck to him. Rated him massively when he first came in, looked our most solid defender.

 

An almost £1m hit is a sore one but what we paid out in transfer and loan fees have almost be covered with sales/loans the last few weeks
