    CELTIC are weighing up a move for Israel defender Hatem Abd Elhamed.

    SunSport understands the Hoopscould land the Hapoel Be’er Sheva stopper for around £1.6million.

    Reports in the country tonight claimed Celts are closing in on agreeing a fee for the 28-year-old.

    Abd Elhamed is a centre-half who can also play right-back. He was moved into defence after starting out as a winger

    The 6ft 1in ace won his first cap for Israel as a sub in last month’s Euro qualifier with Poland, where he replaced current Hoops star Nir Bitton.

    Abd Elhamed started out at Maccabi Tel Aviv and has also played at Ashdod, Dinamo Bucharest and Gent.

    He penned a five-year deal when he moved to Be’er Sheva in 2017 but could now leave after just two years.

    If Celts make a move and land their man then Abd Elhamed would become the latest Israeli to join the club.

    As well as Bitton the likes of Eyal Berkovic, Beram Kayal and Rami Gershon have all turned out in the Hoops while Efe Ambrose was signed from Ashdod.

    Hoops boss Neil Lennon also landed Israeli keeper Ofir Marciano for Hibs.

    Looks quite quick and strong here..

    Watched another of him in Romania and he looked a box to box midfielder so must be versatile..
