Reading a few things there and watched interview with Harry Kane about wanting to go pro-NFL (american football) when he finishes football.

Sounds mental, but when you think about it it COULD be possible.

Amyway this isn’t a thread about Harry Kane per say, does anyone else know of any other footballers who have turned their hand to some other sport when they finished playing?

The 2 that immediately come to mind are Dennis Compton & Ray Lindwall.

Dennis Compton, who won the old English Division 1 in 1937/8 & 1947/8 as well as the FA Cup in 1950 with Arsenal, but he is primarily remembered as a batsman in cricket, playing 78 tests for England between 1937-57.

Ray Lindwall was another brilliant sportsman, having played rugby league for St George, being part of that team that reached 2 Grand Finals in the 1940's, before retiring from that sport so to concentrate on cricket as a fast bowler, playing 61 tests for Australia between 1946-60.

There have been AFL players that have ended up playing NFL in America, as kickers usually, including Darren Bennett, Nathan Graham, Ben Chapman, Saverio Rocca & many more.

There have been an absolute heap, too many to mention anyhow, who have gone from Rugby Union to Rugby League, primarily when Union was all * and League was if they wanted to go professional, but even in the era since Union has embraced professionalism there have been players that have gone from one to the other, and even back again. To put it in context, there is something like 200 duel Internationals between these 2 sports alone, who have played international level in both codes, let alone those who never made it that far, or only made it international in one or the other but played both.

Kevin Moran played GAA at the highest level before playing for Man Utd.

From memory he played floorball, whatever that is.

It was actually before he joined Man Utd though. You know you’re good when you’re good enough to pack in the old floorball career to go and grab a premiership winners medal.

That reminds me of another one. Brian Booth represented Australia at 1956 Olympics in hockey, before becomming a professional cricketer and played 30-odd tests for Australia in th eearly 1960's.

Don't think it is any co-incidence that cricket pops up quite a lot, as its obviously a summer sport, so especially for youngsters playing multiple sports year round. Phil & Gary Neville were both excellent cricketers in their youth, but made the decision to go into football, whereas conversely Steve & Mark Waugh played professional football (well, a handful of games) for Sydney Croatia in the old NSL (which was the precursor of the A-League) while still teenagers, as well as tennis at representative u/age levels, before electing to focus on cricket.

There have been more than a few ex-AFL players who have transitioned to NFL, especially as kickers/punters, so it's not like this is unheard of. Although, the Aussie Rules skill set is probably more suited to that role than what Kane - or any footballer for that matter - would be.
