unfortunately he’s got the same attitude towards contract Celtic have offered, I didn’t realise he’s just married so obviously thinking of securing his familys future, as we all would

There’s absolutely no doubt he’s taken for granted. Really hope we get his contact situation sorted asap.

Km now starting to think that he's not as easy to replace as I thought he was.

Hes a top quality LB. People chose not to see it. If he was over 6ft and strong he would already have displaced Robertson and Tierney in Scotland. Must have one of the highest work rates in the team aswel. Hope he signs an extension because we will be seriously weakened without him.

Most underrated and undervalued player in the team. We need to get his contract situation sorted out and a LB that can push him and cover when needed. Valle, on yesterday's performance, doesn't look the answer.

He is actually starting to make me change my mind on him. He have been fantastic this season and i think he deserves a new contract. If we can get better, yeah great, but that is the case for every position on the pitch, always. He is very underrated and we know what we get. Good left backs are sought after for a reason.

LB is still the position I feel we can most easily improve on, but I'd have no qualms about offering Taylor a new improved contract. He's ideal back up and I think can still imrpove his own game if he had someone better in front of him to make him push on to challenge for the positon. Whether he'd be willing to stay as probable understudy is another matter.

It's just a pity he doesn't seem able to improve his pace, as that's the one thing that really holds him back. Way more than his (lack of) height.

We don't really play with a conventional LB and I think that's why he gets a lot of stick because he appears to be out of position at times but he provides so much to the team going forward and linking up with the midfield and winning back possession quickly etc.
We basically have a midfielder (Taylor), a LW (Maeda) and a LCB (Scales) who between them all cover the LB position. Taylor does it mostly but when he's more in the centre of midfield (or occasionally even over on the right) or further up the park and teams are breaking Maeda and/or Scales are expected to cover.
It's pretty unconventional and was obviously something Ange started but BR seems to have bought into it.

True but he will be looking for north of 20K a week, as he is on 15K now.
So do we pay that sort of coin for a back up?

Yes, if you are looking at having a squad of around 25 where there isn't much of a drop off between the first choice and the back up, and it isn't bloated with duds, which is what Rodgers has been aiming for.

20kpw is ~£1M per year, so over 3 years extension it's equivalent to a £3M, when his current wage is already £2.25M without the raise. Can you really say he doesn't deserve that increase for his contribution so far? It's not like £1M a year is even big money these days, let alone about the £1M (signing on included) over 3.

The more relevant question would be - How much to replace him? How much in wages to the replacement? Remember we’d need 2 quality LB’s to be purchased.

Think he could make it at the base of the midfield

It's a pure guess because you can google it but no idea how reliable those sources are. First team regular and has been here for 5 years and signed an improved deal in that time, not a stretch to imagine he'll be around that salary level.

I agree, I could definitely believe he’s on that much but I thought it might be closer to £10k and the offer would come in at around £15k but yeah it’s all guesswork.
