Definitely. He was absolute class and I would have loved to have seen what he would have done at a bigger club.

Wayne Rooney just needs to look at how someone like Milner has applied themselves and didn't go about * granny dominatrix.

Milner and Rooney both came up at the same time, it literally felt like after Rooney scored to be the youngest prem scorer, Milner broke it a week later. Milner has had by far, the more progressive and consistent career, madly underrated as player.

In terms of great careers that were still disappointing........Ricardo Quaresma

Craig Bellamy - boy had a attitude no doubt, but gone bad by being dumped unceremoniously by Man City after scoring what i think was a title winning goal.

Rooney and Michael Owen played their best football from 17-22 years

Owens game was based on sharp sharp bursts off pace in between defences which played havoc with his harmstrings, made a lot of money out the game and had a few big moves to Man United n Real Madrid but never hit the form he hit when he was17-22 first 5 season s at Liverpool due to constant niggling injuries

Rooneys best season was by far 09/10, when he was 25.

    Batistuta.

Only one Serie A once, think it was with Roma when he was in his late 30’s.

There was a thing on my daughters FB about how Ronaldo keeps himself fit and, by *, the guy puts in a helluva lot of work to keep in good shape. The thing is he does it at training at whatever club he is at and then on his own at home. When I think of all the other good players who have not tried to maintain that level of fitness like Rooney etc. then I begin to wonder why they have lost their motivation to do that. The same applies to some of our own players who really need to take a look at themselves such as Ajeti who doesn't look fit at all and even wee Griffs who has let himself down numerous times. I am not saying they could emulate Ronaldo's levels of fitness as there's not too many like him around but they should at least try.

    Saw that.

He sleeps three times a day, spends most other waking hours either training, working out , or eating strict meals.

Sounds like a horrid existence tbh

Gascoigne....had the world at his feet, and all the talent. Fat * woman beating waster * it all away and joined the club that best suited his own persona.

I'd also chuck Robbie Fowler into the mix.

    Antonio Di Natale.

Great goalscorer but won nothing in his career.

Mmmm....let me think. I had to retire early to care for my grandkids, struggling to pay bills, have got seriously dodgy knees which are needing replaced so, if given the chance, I reckon I'd have that horrid existence any day. Anyway, I'm sure he enjoys whatever he gets up to between all the training, sleeping and all that eating sensibly malarkey:86:

I thought his best season was2005/6 , he looked an absolute bull and was tremendous for England at 2004 , maybe your right club wise but his best tournament was Portugal 2004, when he was 18

Was Gascoigne really ever on the cusp of greatness?

The way some Brits and Huns go on about him you'd think he was next in line to Maradona.

I don’t think he was ever quite at the level of greatness. He was always the tier below.

Lifestyle is no mitigating factor for Gascoigne either. Many great player reach extraordinary heights irrespective of their excesses. Best for instance, or Ronaldinho, ffs Maradona was great no matter how much he drank, ate or sniffed.

Gascoigne was a good player, but nothing particularly special in my view. He had the career he deserved.

I would suggesr that if Fergie had got him his career would have been far more successful.

I hate the * with a passion, but he was a * of a player when he came on the scene in my opinion.
