Torres. Injuries stopped him from being consistently as good as he was around 2008/09.

Still find that transfer to Chelsea mental. It was obvious he was breaking down and never going to be the player that he was again, £50m was some business from Liverpool.

Getting suarez for under half of it on the same day. Would have been one of the best days business ever if they didnt give 35 million for carroll aswell

That Liverpool team that had Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Gerrard and Torres at there best should have done far better than it did and there’ll always be the what could he have done if he moved to another club but I don’t think this thread applies to his playing career.

His managerial career will end up with people wondering just what the * made him go to Ibrox though :56:

So many other big clubs wanted to sign him. He could have had loads more trophies.

Aye but I think the Shearer argument is there with him.

Plus, I can’t imagine the feeling of captaining the club you love to a Champions League win. Would be unreal.

    Wayne Rooney.

Very good player but for me never reached world class. Don’t think he looked after himself well enough. Looked as a teenager like he’d go down as England’s best ever (arguably still is) but feels like he peaked too young and never actually pushed on. Always liked him, too.

Artur Boruc. Had he taken care of himself he’d have gone to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Just came in here to post this, remember he and Ronaldo emerged at the same time and Rooney was younger. Yet Rooney started declining 5 years ago and he's now in the MLS, compare that to what Ronaldo has done over the last 5 years and where he's still at now.

Think with this one, one of the major things is when he was at his best he was that adaptable he sacrificed his own personal glory for team glory. The one season he got to be the main man he scored 36 goals and took the responsibility briliantly. He was the main man for England and he’s the top ever scorer even if he did disappoint at times, not sure if that’s just the English expecting to much.

Rooneys a weird one, he could have been more selfish and thought more highly of but he was key to his teams success during Fergies last 7/8 years and it was because he done what others weren’t willing to.

I agree if he went down Ronaldo’s dedication route he may have been a completely different animal though.

Michael Owen was a devastating striker in his teenage years to early 20s but injuries essentially stripped him of everything that made him so ruthless in the first place and from his mid 20s onwards was never the same.

    Adriano is up there.

This might be harsh, but Gareth Bale? Won some amount of silverware, but his last couple of years, at least, have been a bit of a write off. 31 now and is struggling to get into the Spurs team.

I think that's harsh. 2 league titles, 4 champions league wins, a domestic cup, club world cups and a bunch of individual honours. Not many players have a CV like that.

Aye his list of honours is immense. Just mean on an individual level, in terms of what he's contributed on the pitch. I suppose he just hit his peak earlier than most.

He was incredible a few years ago.

A manager like Lennon would be able to get the best out of him yet.

He majorly contributed to 4 Champions League wins and taking Wales to the best they have ever done Internationally.

Over 100 goals for Real, 33 for Wales. That’s up there with some of the greatest records of all time. *, it’s probably comparable to the likes of Dalglish at Liverpool. Think it’s underrated quite what he’s done.

Yeah it’s still a top career he’s had, no doubt. A CV any player would be proud of.
