CELTIC striker Giorgos Giakoumakis could be ready for an international return to play Northern Ireland tomorrow evening.

The Hoops forward has been out of action with a dead leg after sustaining the injury while with the Greek national team.

It was reported that the striker was experiencing discomfort during training and so was sent for a scan.

It appeared to be a blow for the player, and potentially Celtic, as he was left out of training as a result.

He had been deemed a major doubt for Greece's Nations League game against Northern Ireland on Tuesday night.

However, boss Gus Poyet has provided an update on Giakoumakis' fitness status, as he refused to rule him out.

He told the media: "50-50 for Celtic Giorgos Giakoumakis and Trabzonspor Tasos Bakasetas to play tomorrow v Northern Ireland.

Sounds like it is nothing serious. It's good news.
Would be nice to have GG raring to go for the Motherwell game.

Should have been sent back last week as soon as there was any doubt about him. * wasting his time over there when he was suspended for 1 game and already qualified. Some of these international managers are * idiots

Gus Poyet has ruled Giorgos Giakoumakisout of Celtic's clash with Motherwell this weekend and insists he won't be fit to play, but won't be out for too long.

The Greece boss was unable to use Giakoumakis over the two games with the striker suspended for their first game against Cyprus and was then injured for the win over Northern Ireland on Saturday night after picking up a thigh injury. An MRI cleared him of any serious damage but he was given a personal training programme and was then unable to get ready to play a part against Northern Ireland at all.

And now it's likely he won't play this weekend when Celtic host Motherwell at home in a 3pm kick-off.

Not really, he would be getting assessed over there first then diagnosed first.

    Ange update from BBC Scotland

We'll see. Hopefully Giakoumakis should be OK, from the reports I've had so far.

Like to see the big Man get around half an hour the night.

Normally I would say get him on from the start but I don’t want to rush him back and cause an injury again.
