It's been a while since my last news roundup post, and there's been a few interesting pieces of news lately including a potential new DC game, a few announcements and a big studio closure.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Call of Duty
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Activision's CEO, Eric Hirshberg, revealed during an interview with Newsweek that Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind Call of Duty: WWII, originally wanted to make a sequel to Advanced Warfare (their first COD game).

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    CD Projekt
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CD Projekt's CEO, Adam Kiciński, was recently interviewed by a Polish website regarding the publisher's plans for the future. The interview was originally posted in Polish, but a user on the Resetera forum summarised the main points (original link here, but it's all posted below anyway):

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    EA Sports UFC 3
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EA have announced the next edition in their UFC series. Here's the trailer:

The game is due to release on the 2nd February and there's also a beta taking place from the 27th November to the 1st December that you can sign up for here.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Injustice 2
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NetherRealm have released a trailer announcing the three characters that make up Fighter Pack 3:

For anyone who can't watch the video, the characters are:
    • The Atom
    • Enchantress
    • The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (who are the guest character(s) for this pack)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Overwatch
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blizzard had a couple of new announcements for their hero shooter during their Blizzcon conference.

First up was the annoucnement of a new playable character, Moira, who's expected to be added to the game within the next week or so:

The second announcement was the 'Blizzard World' map, which is basically a Blizzard themed theme-park with references to all their different IP's (link to the trailer)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Respawn Entertainment
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EA have acquired Respawn Entertainment (the studio behind the Titanfall series, which EA publishes) for $315 million in cash and stock, with a possible $140 million bonus in the future as well.

Respawn, which was founded by the former Infinity Ward (the studio that created the first two COD games and the Modern Warfare trilogy) co-founder Vince Zampella and is staffed largely by ex-employees of the same studio. The studio is currently working on three projects - an untitled VR game for the Occulus Rift, an untitled Star Wars project and another Titanfall installment.

Venturebeat also did an interview with Respawn's CEO and EA's Executive Vice President discussing the acquisition and their plans for the future. Here's the link for anyone interested

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Star Wars: Battlefront II
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EA have outlined their post-release content schedule for the first season of Battlefront II, including the date of the first free DLC which will add new missions to the singleplayer campaign:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Tekken 7
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bandai Namco have announced that Noctis, the protagonist of Final Fantasy XV, is being added to Tekken 7 as a guest DLC character:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Visceral Games
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EA have shut down Visceral Games, who are probably best known for the Dead Space trilogy and, more recently, Battlefield: Hardline. Here's the official statement from EA's Executive Vice President Patrick Söderlund:

As the statement mentions, Visceral were working on a Star Wars project (said to be Uncharted-esque) known internally as Ragtag. In one of my previous posts on the last page (link here) I posted an alleged leak from one of the bigger Star Wars fan-sites about the game's story, setting etc.

Also, Jason Schreier at Kotaku has written a great article (link here) chronicling Visceral's downfall, their cancelled projects (a pirate game and another Star Wars game), their clashes with EA and a lot about Ragtag itself. It's definitely worth a read for anyone interested in the inside story of the studio and their Star Wars game.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Warner Bros. Montreal
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late last year a rumour started doing the rounds that WB Montreal were working on a Damian Wayne led Batman game, a claim that was later supported by a writer at Kotaku called Jason Schreier (mentioned above). Schreier, who's a reliable industry insider, would then go on to claim that the game would be announced at an event called the Games Awards (you can read my original post on this here, which has some alleged details about both the Damian game and the now cancelled Suicide Squad game).

The game failed to make an appearance at that event, with Schreier claiming it was pulled at the last minute. This would be the last time we would hear of the game until May of this year when, in response to a someone asking him on Twitter, Schreier claimed that the game has rebooted mid-development (my original post on this can be read here)

There hadn't been any further updates regarding the game, until a Reddit user called 'virgilhawkins17' did some digging on LinkedIn and had look at some profiles of people that work(ed) at WB Montreal.

You can read through their post here,
    but to summarise their findings:

Both a Quality Assurance Analyst and Programmer make mention of working on a project that began in early-ish 2015. Said project was being developed in the Unreal Engine 3 and some of the details of the project could line up with the rumoured Damian Wayne game. However, both of their profiles show that development on this project ended in March of this year suggesting that the Damian game is possibly dead.

Whilst that might be the end of the Damian game, the programmer's profile states that he worked on a new DC related project from March to June (he left WB Montreal to join another studio that same month). When giving a rundown of the project, he mentions that the game is an open-world co-op game, which is being developed on the Unreal Engine 4. So either the Damain is undergoing a drastic change in direction, or the Montreal studio are now working on something new (be it Batman related, or another DC property).

Here's the screenshots of the profiles for anyone interested:

    World of Warcraft
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blizzard had a couple of big announcements at their Blizzcon event for their long-running MMO.

First off was the announcement of 'World of Warcraft: Classic', which is essentially the introduction of a 'classic server'. This classic server will allow players to experience 'vanilla' WoW, which is the version of the game from launch until just before the first expansion.

    Announcement trailer

    Interview with the executive producer

The second announcement was that of the next expansion, Battle for Azeroth.

Here's the announcement trailer (which will also be the expansion's opening cinematic):

Blizzard also put out a video talking through the expansion's new features

It's been a while since I last did one of these big posts, but there's been quite a few announcements, rumours and leaks recently, so it seemed like it was worth doing a new one. Because of the way media works on the forum, I've had to split it across three posts, but it's all in alphabetical order if you're looking for something specific.

    1/3

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Battlefield V
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Late last year there was rumblings that this year's edition of Battlefield was going to be Bad Company 3, however a more recent (and much more supported) rumour has since emerged.

Throughout February some prominent Battlfield players on Youtube began claiming that this year's Battlefield would in fact be a WW2 game. This in turn prompted a journalist, called Jeff Grubb who writes for a website called 'VentureBeat' to post two articles (one on the 1st March and another on the 5th) detailing various bits of information they've heard from sources close to the project. You can read both articles here (Article 1 & Article 2) but i'll summarise them below anyway:

    • DICE have been planning on a returning to the WW2 setting for a number of years, and have wanted to get away from the modern or near future settings.
    • They didn't want to jump straight into the WW2 setting immediately, so instead chose to do a WW1 game first. This meant that if Battlefield 1 didn't work out, they still had the option of moving on to WW2 anyway (although Battlefield 1 was a success).
    • The internal name of the project at DICE/EA is Battlefield V, but it had been previously been referred to as Battlefield 2. The author notes that the title'Battlefield V' was also apparently used internally for Battlefield 1 during it's development.
    • Like Battlefield 1, the game's campaign won't focus solely one character, but will instead be various 'mini-stories' with different perspectives of the war.
    • There's apparently a special co-op mode that will allow squads to take part in #randomly generated Conquest mission's/
    • Players will be able to go prone on their back (like Rainow 6: Patriots).
    • There will be loot boxes, but they'll for cosmetic items only (a decision influenced by the Battlefront 2 fiasco).
    • There was also an alleged leaked screenshot of the title screen from a developer build of the game. It was posted in the Discord channel of a Youtber called 'Drakesden' who's apparently leaked some Battlefield rumours in the past:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Bluepoint Games
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

During an interview with Digital Foundry the President of Bluepoint Games (the studio that handled the recent Shadow of the Colossus remake) stated, in response to the question of whether or not the studio would now work on an original IP, that the studio's next project is another remake:

In regards to what said remake could be: Bluepoint have a pretty close relationship with Sony (to the extent that it's been speculated that Sony will purchase the studio in the not too distant future) so another collaboration with them is probably a pretty good bet.

    • Ico could be a potential candidate (given their work on Shadow of the Colossus) although given the fact that they mention the project being larger than SotC, that could perhaps rule it out (Ico is a fairly small/short game).
    • Demon Souls is another popular (and previously rumoured) candidate, but given it's relative recency you would think that's more likely to receive a remaster than a full remake (although it's still a possibility).
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Burnout Paradise Remastered
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This actually released last Friday, but I haven't seen any mentions.

    Here's the reveal trailer:

It's worth noting that this is actually EA's first remaster this generation, after previously stating that they had no interest in doing them. So it could perhaps be a sign that some of their more popular IP's from the last gen could also be in line for a remaster somewhere down the line (i.e. Mass Effect, Dead Space etc.).

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following a number of rumours throughout February, Activision have finally revealed that this year's edition of COD will be Black Ops 4 (stylized as 'IIII') with Treyarch once again developing.

They've shown a teaser trailer, announced platforms (PC, PS4, Switch & Xbox One) and a release date (12th October) but a full reveal will take place on the the 17th May.

A couple of other points worth mentioning:

    • A listing appeared on Amazon for a Modern Warfare 2 Remastered

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's been a couple of Crash related bits of news this past month:

    • The first, and arguably biggest, announcement is that the recent Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy remake will be coming to PC, Switch and Xbox One on the 10th July. This will be the first time that the original trilogy will be (officially) playable on a non-Playstation platform. Here's the offical statement:

    • The second bit of news actually comes from a catalgoue produced by a company called 'GB Eye' who produced licensed merchandise in Europe. When discussing the future of Crash related merchandise, the company's licensing manager, a man called Max Arguile said this:

So, to clarify (just in case anyone can't see the image):
    • The N. Sane Trilogy is coming to other platforms (which has since been confirmed)
    • A new Crash game is due out next year
    • Activision have Crash related plans through 2022
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Cyberpunk 2077
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED's (the studio behind the Witcher) next game, may be a cross-generation title depending on how you interpret the words of two of CDPR's executives (courtesy of GamingBolt):

Also worth mentioning is that CDPR are confirmed to appear at Gamescom and are also rumoured (according to a Polish website) to be showing off both a trailer and closed door demo at E3.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Days Gone
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a quick update, but Sony have now confirmed that Days Gone is now due to release in 2019. It was previously slated for this year, but it never got an official date.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Fable
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eurogamer have revealed that a new Fable game is currently in development:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Nintendo
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Nintendo held one of their Nintendo Direct events earlier this month (which you can watch in full here, for anyone interested), in which they showed off some new games and provided updates for others that they had previously announced. There's too many videos to post here, so if you want to watch any of them, just click the link:

    • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Switch)
      • It's due to release on the 13th July
      • It includes all the levels from the original 3DS game, plus some additional levels inspired by Super Mario Odyssey

    • Dark Souls Remastered (Switch)
      • The game will be getting a network test, with details to be announced soon
      • A Solaire of Astora Amiibo was announced, which, when scanned, will unlock the 'Praise the Sun' gesture

    • Mario Tennis Aces (Switch)
      • It's due to release on the 22nd June
      • The known playable characters are:
        • Mario
        • Luigi
        • Peach
        • Daisy

        • Bowser
        • Bowser Jr.
        • Yoshi

      • There's an option for full motion control

    • Okami HD (Switch)
      • It's due to release this Summer
      • It's seemingly an e-Shop exclusive in Europe & the US
      • You can use both motion and touch screen controls for the Celestial Brush

    • Splatoon 2 Version 3.0 Update (Switch)
      • More than a 100 new pieces of gear
      • 3 new maps (2 of which are from the original game)
      • A new 'Rank X' mode
      • Two new songs for multiplayer

It's also worth mentioning that although it wasn't mentioned during the direct, and it hasn't been officially announced, a Diablo 3 Switch port is in development.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Prey
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arkane have been teasing something Prey related on their Twitter.

On the 2nd March they posted a tweet with a short GIF showing the Moon:

Then on the 14th March, they posted another image showing the developers celebrating 'Prey Day'. If you look in the background, you can see a whiteboard with a picture of the Moon and the date 6/10/18 (which, seeing as they're an American studio, would be the 10th July). Interestingly, this date is actually the same day as Bethesda's E3 showcase.

Most people seem to think it's a hint towards a standalone expansion like Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (another Arkane developed game) which seems like a pretty good bet.

    Red Dead Redemption 2
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In February a site called Trusted Reviews posted an article in which they claim to have received some leaked development notes for RDR2 back in August last year. They state that they chose not to publish the details at the time because as they had no way of verifying the leak. However, subsequent promotional materials released by R* have lined up with some of the details found in said leaked notes (they show this in the article itself).

If you want to read the article in full, here's a link, but I'll post the main points below anyway.

    Sega Genesis (Mega Drive) Classics
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sega have announced the Sega Genesis Collection (although it'll probably be called the Mega Drive Collection over here) for PC, PS4 & Xbox One.

The collection features 50 games which you can find listed below:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Shadow of the Tomb Raider
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sonic Mania Plus details:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Sonic Racing Game
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A user on a prominent Sonic/Sega fan forum, who has something of a track record for Sonic related leaks, has claimed that Sumo Digital (the developers for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and it's sequel, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed) are working on a new Sonic racing game. However, they also claim that unlike the previous two games, this new racer will focus either mostly or solely on Sonic related characters.

Sega did later confirm that a new Sonic racing game is in development, with more details to come on the 22nd March:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    SoulCalibur VI

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Splinter Cell
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A listing for 'Splinter Cell 2018' , by Ubisoft itself, was found on Amazon Canada:

Ubisoft's CEO and co-founder, Yves Guillemot, has spoken recently about the company's desire to revive the series, so an announcement at E3 looks likely.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Spyro Remake
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kotaku are reporting that following the successes of the Crash N.Sane Trilogy remake, a Spyro original trilogy remake is to be announced some time in March.

    Here's the details:

Why have they just abandoned Fight Nights, loved these. The one with the story was excellent and I loved the PS3 version where you could add your own Intro music.

Looks like that * UFC is taking priority.

Gonna get Madden 18, as it has a story mode. Did like the old games but not sure if it's a bit complex now.

Need to get the Dolphins to Superbowl glory.

It has been on sale around superbowl weekend. Got the ultimate superbowl edition for 25 euro's. Doubt it's still on sale though.
