The article seemed to imply whoever it was happened to stumble in steaming drunk and had to be rescued. I must say, the thought of little McKay-Steven steaming and falling into a river made me LOL

However, having seen some of the comments on Twitter, there's something a bit more sinister about this...

    Feel bad now actaully.

This sounds a bit fishy :fear:

Seriously though, was Armstrong the other player with him ?

Looks like he's went out on the pish with some of the Glasgow based Aberdeen boys down the west end after beating Patrick Thistle. Ryan Christie seems more likely to me in that scenario.

The gutter press, have ensured that this mans privacy, confidentiality won't be respected, which could make things worse for him. Written to allow the wildest speculations on social media – which are of course duly taking place. Hope the lads okay.

Apparently he wasn't responding for about 10 minutes. Nearly died!

ABERDEEN star Gary Mackay-Steven was treated for hypothermia after a fireman pulled him from a freezing river.

The dramatic rescue at 4am on Sunday came an hour and a half after the ex-Celt, 26, jumped in to Glasgow’s River Kelvin.

He was taken to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but last night his condition was not known.

It’s believed Mackay-Steven had earlier been in the nearby Sanctuary nightclub but had left after an incident inside.

He’s understood to have been partying with a fellow footie ace.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 2.40am on Sunday, August 27, police received a report of a 26 year-old male in the River Kelvin, Partick.

“Emergency services attended and a full search of the area was carried out with the male being located.

“He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service had dispatched their boat from Polmadie Fire Station in Glasgow’s Southside for the rescue.

A spokesman said: “At 2.46am on Sunday, August 27 the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a man in the water at the River Kelvin near Benalder Bridge in Glasgow.

The footie star was in the River Kelvin for an hour and a half before he was rescued
“Four appliances attended and specialist water rescue crews safely assisted the individual out of the water – he was then transferred into the care of paramedics after suffering the effects of hypothermia.

“Firefighters ensured the area was safe before leaving the scene.”

Mackay-Steven had been in the squad for Aberdeen’s 4-3 win against Partick Thistle at the city’s Firhill, but was an unused substitute.

The attacker began his career at Ross County before earning a move to Liverpool as a teenager.

He later moved back to Scotland, and his performances at Dundee United saw him win a Scotland cap in 2013.

He later moved to Celtic for £250,000 in 2015, before moving to the Dons earlier this summer.

The player’s condition is unknown and no one from Aberdeen was available for comment.

He got chipped out along with Armstrong, jumped a fence and ended up in the river.

Can't swim and is seriously lucky to be alive.

 Found this funnier than I should have done.

But on a serious note, hope he is ok and it was just a drunken accident. Hope what the article says isn't true that he jumped in. Hopefully he just had a bit too much.

I'd love to post a photo of GMS and Armstrong as Kate Winslet and di Craprio in the Titanic scene where they're in the water and Armstrong's on the door...
