Aye, I don’t think he left for the money either, QPR offered him more.

Must have been better prospects wi Norwich, think they got promoted that year under Alex Neil, poss. injured most of that time. Would have him back in a minute though.

Think Alex Neil came in later on that year, they were spending a bit if I remember right.

We should have given him a new contract on the provision that we'd sell him at the end of the season when we got the right bid, he could have had another champions league campaign scored a few and got a better move than Norwich and we might not have been put out of Europe at the group stages, the lack of a top drawer striker killed us in that campaign I remember us playing really well in the san siro but we had Stokes and Samaras leading the line, Hooper would have made a real difference.

I’d have no qualms taking him back tbh. :56:

Tbf, I thought Stokes did well for us in a few of those games. The main issue was, like you said, we didn't have a top drawer striker. A real finisher and poacher who could flat out put the ball in the net. Stokes was unlucky to not bang in a few that year in my opinion, had no luck.

Yeah wasn't having a go at Stokes just him and Hooper would have given us a much better chance as they always played better together, as great as Samaras had been the year before in the CL teams seemed to have wisened up to him the following season.

Love the goal he bums Davie Weir for, the counter with Emilio is one of my favs in recent years as well, sums up Izzy's season that year!

He was terrific here. Loved him..

One of his best finishes was at the Camp Newco the bend outside the post after Broony's reverse pass..

    Scored so many belters..

Great forward for us, had every right to leave when he did but left for the wrong club.

Think he really could've done with one more season. If he bid his time a little he could probably still be playing in the premier league. Was gutted when he left

He was a very good striker for us and he proved he could score goals in Europe as well, I remember him scoring a cracker in the CL group stages against Spartak Moscow to get us through to the last 16. Some players and and certain clubs "click", Celtic was the right club for him, in hindsight he made the wrong decision to leave Celtic. Another who found out the grass isnt greener in England.

Fantastic striker for us. Left too soon and his career suffered by him being too eager to jump ship at the first opportunity. A stain on his character for me. Shame really, as I think if he waited a bit longer he could have got himself a better club and also have benefited us more by doing so.

A stain on his character? That's a bit melodramatic, isn't it?
