    Is anyone that's read the books actually happy with the last season, and episode one of this season?

    Honestly the show has gone to * since the end of season 4. Crap storylines that feel rushed, killing off influential characters in * ways, a show about plotting/scheming has turned so * simplistic its nauseating.

    It really isn't about being a book reader, I've only read the more recent ones. Just a serious drop in quality from the first 4 seasons to the most recent 1 and can see that continuing in the latest season unfortunately.

    I've read the books, I don't see what relevance reading the books has to the quality of the TV show?

    Season 5 was the weakest but it was still very good. The first episode of season 6 was good, honestly don't know what people expect from it.

    It was a season opener (which usually spend time catching up with everyone) and we got 2 deaths - one being a fairly important character - and the Melisandre reveal.

    It is entertainment though, they've fell below par of what you'd expect i'd say. Season 5 and this first episode you'd say were interesting just cause the characters are but there's not a lot went on.

    You come away from it now thinking "when is something going to happen" rather than "that was great".

    I don't think it does for most folk tbh. Maybe some folk don't like the direction it takes but otherwise I don't think having read them has significantly impacted my enjoyment of any season.

    Agree with this.

    It's gone from must watch TV to a show that I'm now watching because I'm invested in it.

    Hopefully this season can change that but felt the start was pretty poor. The Dorne storyline seems like something that's been done particularly poorly.

    But that's what I don't get. Something DID happen.

    Two deaths and an ending that nobody saw coming. What do you want? A battle?

    There's been loads of episodes from the first 4 seasons where "nothing happened". You can't have a main character death or a big fight in every episode.

    I still find it incredibly entertaining.

    I think sometimes people want to over analyse programmes too much. It's TV, it's meant for enjoyment, just go with the flow:56:
