Seems a tad nepotistic, with Lenny and his Da so close.

Posh have agreed a compensation package for Strachan who will become first-team coach at Parkhead.

It’s a dream move for Scotsman Strachan (41) whose father Gordon is a former Celtic manager.

Posh have identified targets to replace Strachan, but are likely to wait until they know when the 2020-21 League One season will start before making an appointment.

Posh let first-team coach Aaron Mclean leave earlier this month so first-team boss Darren Ferguson currently has no senior assistant.

Posh director of football Barry Fry said: “I have agreed a deal with Celtic’s lawyer and Gavin has also agreed a deal with the club.

“We don’t want to lose him, but we cannot stand in the way of such a big job. The deal should be completed on Monday.

“Darren has identified replacements, but they are all currently in work and we will probably wait until we know when the new season will start before making a move.”

Strachan is a former Posh player and worked alongside Ferguson at Doncaster before they both returned to London Road in Febraury, 2019.

Ferguson’s former Posh assistant Kevin Russell is a potential replacement for Strachan. Russell, who now works for Stoke City’s Academy, helped Posh to back-to-back promotions in 2007-08 & 2008-09.

A experienced assistant manager and coach don't understand people moaning. Kennedy had no experience, Duff had * all experience this guy by all counts is an experienced coach compared to what those two where.

By all accounts he's a highly rated coach so don't see the problem with this at all. Some folk are never happy ffs

I’m sure we done plenty research into Duffs replacement, bit underwhelmed but he does have good experience as assistant manager.

Would still take Fletcher as well.

Why underwhelmed by it if you don't mind me asking. Highly rated coach who has been coaching for a number of years and has been an assistant manager too got all the credentials is it cause he was at Peterborough?

I'm sure i read this somewhere aswell. If Lennon was allowed to get his own backroom staff, do you not think he would have brought Parker with him?

If we are paying money for this guy, we must think highly of him. It is good he has a bit of experience & maybe we are going for more consistency, as there is a better chance he is here for the long term. Look at the previous ones like Maloney & Duff who jumped ship as soon as they could.

Wonder if he will directly influence any new style of play we might introduce. Bringing in new ideas etc. For me to say he has no pedigree may be a tad harsh. Peterborough I think narrowly missed out on play off positions in a very competitive league. Maybe he can sort out our corner kicks which are minging.

GAVIN STRACHAN is on the verge of joining Celtic's backroom staff.

The son of former Hoops boss Gordon is the top choice to replace Damien Duff as No3.

Strachan is currently Peterborough United's assistant manager - but compensation talks are underway.

If all goes to plan, the 41-year-old could be confirmed as Neil Lennon's new first-team coach this week.

The former Scotland under-21 star is a long-term ally of Posh boss Darren Ferguson and is under contract until 2022.

But an emotional move to Celtic, where dad Gordon won three titles in four years, is understood to appeal to Strachan

He already has a relationship with Hoops' No2 John Kennedy, having gone through their coaching badges together.

Strachan will work closely with the Parkhead assistant manager on a daily basis and that partnership is crucial

Celtic have been searching for a new coach since Duff quit his post to take up a Republic of Ireland role.

Darren O'Dea and Stephen McManus, both currently working at the club, were in the running to step up.

But Lennon is now likely to turn to Strachan as Celtic crank up their plans for the coming season.

He has emerged as the first choice for the post in the last 48 hours, but the Hoops will want a quick answer.

A move could be wrapped up this week if compensation can be agreed between the two clubs.

Strachan’s personal terms are unlikely to be a problem as Celtic look to give Lennon the man he wants.

Posh have just missed out on being in the League One promotion play-offs and are reluctantly sat on the sidelines.

Ferguson does not want to lose Strachan but is unlikely to stand in his way if he pushes for the move.

Born in Aberdeen, he had a long career in the English lower leagues after starting out at Coventry City.

He moved into coaching in 2011, starting out as Peterborough youth coach before moving up to first-team duties.

Strachan was appointed Ilkeston boss in 2015 - but left soon after to be Ferguson's No2 at Doncaster Rovers.

He then followed him back to Posh in early 2019 but could now seal a move to the Premiership champions.

Was on same coaching course as Kennedy so maybe a friendship was formed there or Kennedy recognised a talent in him. And with comments this week regarding Kennedy I think there's a strong chance he'll be our next manager so maybe it's an appointment with one eye on the future

Think exactly this also mate, maybe Lenny leaves in a year or so and those two take over without much of a change within the club. Not sure how I feel on it tho

Easy to forget that John Kennedy is now going into his 7th season as First Team Coach with us.
