I know, I just mean it's about balance. Lennon's always had Thommo, Maloney and Duff somewhere in the back room.
Obviously defensive players can make attacking Managers. It would just be good to have one coach who's built their career breaking down sides to pass on some tips and help inspire the forwards.

I disagree. Players careers don't have "nothing to do with coaching" - there's no substitute for first-hand experience of something, a text book or excel spreadsheet can't replicate that.

They can draw on their own experience of handling expectation, adversities, managing game situations, different playing styles etc. and pass that on to individuals. If I'm Mikey Johnston I'd much rather be coached by a Damien Duff who has been where I've been, broken through and became one of the top wingers in the world, winning EPLs, competing in the Champions League rather than some football boffin that has learned on some Association course and talks the talk.

That isn't to say that all good players are good coaches and also that football boffins can't also be good coaches but experience certainly counts for something.

The key part of coaching is communicating and I think if the Ferguson entrusted Fletcher to deliver his message on the park then that's indicative that he has the communication and motivational skills required to be a good coach.

O'Dea and McManus I wouldn't put in the same bracket of what they achieved in the game but I can understand Celtic wanting to have former academy graduates as coaches at the club. To call them "disasters" at this stage is a bit hyperbolic. The litmus test will be the players that come through in the years to come, academy league and cup wins are a distant second IMO.

Gavin Strachan was assistant manager to Darren Ferguson at Doncaster.

Can't say he or Darren we're highly thought of during their time.

If coaching was simply about your playing career then the greatest players of all time would all be the greatest coaches of all time. Just because you’re a top player doesn’t mean you’re going to be good at teaching someone else everything you know. There’s plenty of top footballers who are clearly thick as * and can barely string a sentence together.

If I’m Mikey Johnston then I’d rather be coached by the best coach regardless of whether they’re the greatest winger of all time or don’t have any legs.

Fergie entrusted Giggs. Fergie entrusted Solskjaer. Fergie said when he retired that Phil Jones could end up being Manchester United’s greatest player of all time. Fergie also handpicked Moyes as his replacement.

You're agreeing with what I said in my post.

You've not answered JC above, if vehemently against Fletcher for not having coaching experience, who do you want?

    I’m not though.

And I’m not ‘vehemently against Fletcher’.

Someone preferably with at least some experience wether that’s an older coach or a young up and coming coach who’s showing potential at an academy/reserve level.

Seeing as we seem to be looking at only bringing in one coach to work alongside Lennon and Kennedy then I’d bring Johan back.

I think Lennon would have Mjallby back in a heartbeat if he wanted it. The fact he hasn't come suggests to me he doesn't though.

Darren Fletcher does sound like he'd be a good appointment..

Strachan's boy would be underwhelming as *..
